Thinking about a new ride?

I traded in a 2013 Jeep Rubicon for my 2015 Mustang. I have been kicking around trading my Mustang on a new Jeep Rubicon. Still waiting on the recall fix. KBB gives me a $27500 trade in value and I owe $6400. Has my Mustang lost all that value? What about all the aftermarket upgrades? I saved the stock air box, but will I take a hit on the Magnaflow Street exhaust? You always take a hit trading in cars at the dealership. Can't do anything until next year around March or April.
Love my Mustang, but looking to play in the dirt again and can't have both.

Buy a cheaper Jeep like the TJ and keep the Mustang.

^^ I agree. No need in getting a new Jeep to take on trails and get it all scratched up with the possibility of breaking something. Get a beater Jeep so you don't have to worry about the paint and body. The replacement parts are much cheaper.

Just got some insurance prices. My insurance will drop $142.00 every 6 months with a new Jeep Rubicon. I pay $406.60 every 6 months with the Mustang. That is with excellent coverage and $500 deductible w/glass. Jeep would be $264.00 with the same coverage.

Stangs depreciate fairly rapidly. It is what it is.
Dealers won't give anything for mods. Better off returning the car back to stock.

Also take into account MY18 is around the corner which will further drive used prices down.

Personally I would enjoy the Stang another year or two and wait until I had some positive equity before letting it go. By then the all new redesigned JEEPs will be out.

You are correct and that is what I was thinking. Not sure how long I will wait. I can put everything back to stock except for the exhaust.

'91 YJ 4.0 5MT. Parts are dirt cheap. Rebuilt for reliability, not repainted for "who cares if it gets scratched on the trail".

I had purchased nearly $10,000 in parts for my 2016 GT when I decided to trade it in. The blower/MMR pieces were still new in box, but on the other stuff I just figured I'd take a loss. Obviously, it would have been better, financially, if I hadn't bought all those parts just to then sell the car, but things happen. I lost a few thousand, but I'm happier with the Subaru and Camaro than I was with the GT.

lol ... thats my plan for next year but I'm buying used. There's quite a few good deals on craigslist under $5k. I'd drive the Jeep when it snows and I'd occasionally take a nature ride in it with the top down so I don't need a new one.


Love Jeeps but i'm not letting go of my Muscle car now that I've got a good one

Yep. It's extremely disappointing to see how much value these mustangs lose so quickly. My '15 vert stickered for like $48k and 1 year later at 18k miles, KBB was listed at $31k. Had about $24k worth of mods into it and was luckily able to recover about $10k of that during the sale to a private buyer.

Going to the dealership on Friday 11/25 for them to inspect my Mustang. They already gave me a lowball price for trade in. Going to remove all the aftermarket stuff today and bring it back to stock. I will keep you informed.

I say as long as you enjoy what you drive, it doesn't matter.

But- A daily driver would thoroughly change your position on the mustang. I drive an old, paid for, Sierra pickup that I love to death. It gets hit with rocks, beat up, door dinged, I throw shit in the back, I tow stuff, I drive thru salt water. Never hurts my feelings. When I get out of it and decide to take the Mustang out, I appreciate the GT so much more.

TLDR; You drive the car everyday, it looses its magic. You put it as a pleasure vehicle, you won't sell it.

Mine is my DD and I love it, every time I drive it. I think the issue is that, if it's your DD, you just have to accept some basic facts: stones, dirt, a$$holes parking next to you. Coupled with whatever the hell is going on with modern automotive paint, this stuff chips more easily than a china cup, it is virtually impossible to drive a car regularly, enjoy it, and not have anything happen to it.

In my case, I'd rather enjoy/love the car I drive every day, rather than only on weekends, etc.

Also, it sounds like, if you're not keeping the vehicle for more than a year or two, pouring tons of money into mods probably isn't a great idea. Unless selling privately to another enthusiast, then you stand a chance of getting some back.
