Update:

They keep insisting that the defect is normal and they won't do anything with the hood.

At this point, I cannot recommend the purchase of the hood for anyone who might have been interested.

I'm going to hand the matter over to my credit card company.

Wow. An unbonded panel is normal. If that’s how SA address’s the parts they sell, I can only imagine what goes on with the builds. A very bad look for SA. I’m sure your cc company will take care of you. Is there enough flex in that area to bond it with some panel bonding adhesive?

Their recommendation to me was to have my body shop repair it. I'm not going to touch it until this matter is resolved. They advertise the hood as needing prep for paint. It says nothing about work involving re-bonding seams that were defective from the factory. For the record, there were other small cosmetic issues that need to be addressed. However those certainly fell under the "prep" category prior to paint. The seam? No way.

I too cannot believe that Shelby American let this go out their door like this. And then when it is discovered they refuse to address the matter?

I'll update the thread when I get more info. FWIW, I tried to resolve this matter privately until it was flat out dismissed by Shelby. I am writing this now because I previously recommended this hood. I don't want to be responsible knowing what I know and have this happen to someone else.

So I guess they are reading this. They asked me to pack it all up and they will pick it up. When they confirm a full refund to include my shipping, I'll do exactly that.

Seems like a trend in every industry everywhere. Honest work and craftsmanship, and pride in the product you sell....seems to be disappearing.
Yea, it's a shame. I offered every opportunity to resolve this matter amicably. Everyone could have been happy. They are going to lose the cost of round trip shipping. One of my offers was a small patial refund to get the issue repaired. I guess they would rather get it back at any cost and put it right back where it was before, unobtanioum. Eh, their loss.

Wow. With a brand like SA you would think they would want everything to come out pristine or we will correct it. You gave it your best efforts and I don’t blame you for what you’re doing. Good luck going forward.

I like to disassemble things.

Nah. I've purchased items from them in the past that had horrendous QC. The axle breather tank I bought from them for my '09 GT500 had THE worst welds on it that I have ever seen. To top it off it had slag/pieces of metal in it, like marbles in a tin can. A friend bought one with the same issue. Never again.

Well, that’s a real shame. I really love the way this hood looks and the fact that it added some downforce was even better. When I get back in the country at the end of this month, I was going to buy one however not now thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it.

This is nothing. Order a fiberglass hood. The hours just to get it ready for paint was more than the hood cost(and it wasn't cheap). This is normal for them. Always a fight and only when you push back they seem to make an attempt.
