RAW and DNG are pretty much the same thing. I also convert to DNG.
RAW is a generic term for the uncompressed format that the camera writes to the memory card, for those that don't know. For Nikon it is .NEF. For Canon, Sony, etc... they all have their own files. DNG is a format that is more commonly supported by editing software.

Back when I was using my D5000 I could import into Lightroom directly from my memory card without having to convert to .DNG.

Thanks! We have 2 horses so I love equine events. The Rolex event in KY is amazing. I hope we end up going again next year, or maybe this year.

I have a coworker that competes in equestrian and is apparently one of the best in the region. It would be awesome to shoot at one of her next events, or even her just doing some practice.

Got my new 35mm f1.8 lens yesterday and took some quick shots w/o a tripod. When I have time I'll clean her up and take some with a tripod. Also, these were taken at noon instead of early morning or late afternoon. Any tips will be appreciated on getting better shots, thanks.

What settings were you using for those shots?

First thing I notice is that the background is still quite sharp and in focus which can distract the viewer from looking at the subject which is your car. This tells me your aperture setting was too narrow(f11-16). Open up the aperture as wide as it can go and take a shot. Then if there are parts of your car that look soft or out of focus drop the aperture just a little bit, such as f2.8 and take another shot. You'll see that the background will be blurred out(aka bokeh) and it will make your car really stand out.

Exactly what Grimace said, open that lens all the way up to f1.8 and adjust from there. The background is to in focus and isn't allowing the car to be the main subject.

Finally had a nice weekend to get out and take some shots of the car.

Went to a C&C this morning and used my 10-17mm I bought from @DarkSubRosa last week. First time going out with the lens, wish I would have changed a few things I did, but all in all it was a learning experience. Here's a couple,

Again as always, completely open to criticism. Tell me what I did wrong, right and should work on.
