I hope that day never arrives! That would mean the the free enterprise system is no longer operating and that business would longer be conducted according to supply and demand. The scariest word that you used in the post is government...I NEVER want to see the government involved in any market!
Then you must be against the dealer model, right? RIGHT? I mean what with all the government regulations that protect dealers. Regulations that were put in place BY dealership associations and their lackeys in state governments.

The hypocrisy here is unbelievable and you aren't fooling anyone.

If people want to support the dealership model because it aligns with their interests, fine. But don't pretend that it has anything to do with a free market. You cannot be pro-free market and pro-dealership. They are diametrically opposed.

Greed conquers all. A dealer who touts that they run their business on Christian principals wanted to know if I was willing to pay over $100k for an R.

you do realize that our (christian / calvanist) forefathers were ruthless capitalists, don't do?

I just found it ironic. That's all.

How about the market for roads, education, police officers, fire departments, military to name a few?
a completely free enterprise system is only a concept, yet to be tested by any civilization. embargoes, taxes, trade treaties...all places where optimal outcomes likely require something other that a purely profit-driven free enterprise system to optimize outcomes for society.

Not to mention the enforcement of contracts, prosecution of fraud, etc.

This is what happens when your understanding of economics comes from some buffoon on the radio.

I'm probably alone here, but I hope the current business model for dealerships doesn't change anytime soon. I've worked deals well below MSRP each time, and want to have the opportunity to continue to do that.

It's not changing anytime soon. Everyone loves getting killer below invoice deals and loves to gripe about Adm. Far far more cars sell well below invoice than those that sell for above sticker, it just sucks for normal folks who want the icy new hotness without having to wait.

Eliminating the dealership model would not eliminate the deals below invoice.

Older inventory, end of model clearances and End of year sales would still apply. What would simply go away is the individual dealerships that inflate their prices beyond what the manufacturer would sell it at as a brand new release.

Discounts and incentives would still apply in any retail market. Brand loyalty incentives and even incentives to switch from another brand would also apply.

Without a dealer in the way, much of what should be transparent as far as incentives and discounts would be more attainable simply because they are no longer hidden by the dealer so they can leverage these things to pad their sale.

The crappiest part about the whole experience as it is...is leaving there being told you got a deal and really not knowing if you got the absolute best price.

That made me laugh. It's sadly true though.

I know the guy, he's legit. Bought my Anniv Ed from him at a 'fair' (in my book) ADM for an early number - 0015/1964. This being one of the first ones listed on eBay, looks like he's trying for $15k ADM. More power to him. I was offered one of his 2 allocations, I declined at his early ADM. VIN is not showing on ford's sticker price lookup yet because no window sticker has been generated, the unit is only 'scheduled' but is valid inside Ford.
