If someone changes the pump and don’t know what there doing and they get air in the line from one side to the other the siphon no longer works and it relies on the Venturi completely.

Tips on how to prevent air getting in the line during an install?

Ideally you want to keep the bucket full at all times.
I did some checking and will admit you are correct.
My little hose get fuel in from the same place everyone else’s does, the fuel pumps which pull from in the bucket. I assume you mean when the fuel is below the top of the bucket. I still have a venturi on the driver side
