AFter giving up tryna find amsoil synchromesh II is this god forsaken city I decided to get Royal Purple Synchromax & Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic 75w90. 2 qts RP + .7 qts Penz. First impression was a very smooth gear engagement. Like butter smooth. Much better than the factory fill. Driving around town upshifting / downshifting all the usual things still retained the butter smooth engagement. I like it a lot. Cheers.

BYW, to fill the trans i just ran a 3/8" hose from the fill through the engine bay and attached it to the bottle. Popped a couple holes into the container to equalize the pressure & done. No spills, no mess, and no '$100' speciality pumps.

I did that once too. And might do it again, since space might be too limited to be d*cking with a freaking pump. Ha ha. Hey, did you add fluid until it came out, or poured the exact amount? Just curious. Thanks.

You just fill until it comes out of the hole, spec is from the fill hole itself to about 5 mils below it on most manual transmissions.

2.7 quarts went in.
But was fluid coming out of the fill hole? If not, how far below the hole fluid level was? Thx.

I'm tempted to do what Ice445 suggested, but wouldn't want to overfill it. I plan to let it drain overnight, so a little bit more fluid than normal might come out of my tranny and diff.

no fluid came out. no idea how far below the hole it was. Fords calls for 2.7 quarts so that's what went in.

Oh yes, the Pz Synchromesh works wonders in the prior 86-95 T5’s too... old tech from years ago that still works great today.

How do you like it? It def made a huge difference in the T5’s.

@WildHorse Are you still driving around with the Royal Purple Cocktail? How are you liking it and how does it behave in the Canadian temperature extremes?

I was going to change the trans fluid to BG Syncro Shift II but a jug of that and a pump handle will be just shy of $200 by the time it gets to my door.

Still loving it. While I haven't drove it in our current -30c temps, around 0c it drives just fine !

Thanks! That's all I needed to hear. Come springtime, I know what I need to do.
