Factor in the cost of a converter with the vortech because sooner or later you will buy one.

Some very good points made - I was thinking about this yesterday morning - going the lower cost route since I'm only looking for a slight kick and don't want to lose reliability - I have the manual so the Whipple definitely seems the way to go for me.

If you do decide to go centri you should go Paxton. The Paxton head unit is essentially the upgraded Vortech unit.

It'll give you some room to grow in the future.

Whipple seems solid though. Resale is much better and more simple to install.

Whipple easier to install? Not sure about that...

So I was planning everything out for the Whipple gen 5. Planning on buying it through Beefcake and it should come up to $6800 (stage 1 with oversized heat exchanger). I happen to look at the Vortech pricing too and it came up to almost $5k even. Is anybody else in the same boat?
I have been doing for months what you’ve been doing .

There’s an old thread that compares his kits a bit.

It’s $650 from Lund since you’re adding boost, it’s on their FAQ.

Also Team Beefcake has their 900 Hp special Blow off kit. I would get the Paxton 2200SL because if I’m not mistaken it’s comparable to a D1SC ? That thread was old .

but the kit is cheaper and you’ll be able to grow from there .

plus the price is nice since you have injectors already .

If I had to do it all over again. I’d pick procharger just because it’s a more tidy mount under the hood. I hate the overflow tank placement on my Paxton.

Go whipple if you've got whipple money. There's a reason you always see used centri's up for sale.

You can always jump in a v3jt but the self lubricated units (2200sl/V3Si), in my opinion, are not worth the time and effort.

What's the reason used centri's are always for sale? Which setup do you run?

I have a Vortech V3si with a 3.4 pulley. It currently has the 928 motorsports "Super Vortech" Upgrades done. barber 18 IM, e85, full exhaust, mantic clutch, and so on..

I believe that i see used kits commonly because people are always upgrading to turbo or pd blowers. Personally, I'd like to get my hands on a JT and that's why i tell people to skip the try level centri's.

People aren’t really upgrading anything, they just have credit cards burning a whole in their pockets and the interwebz on their ear. They put no thought or effort into what they have. Unless you’re making 1000 or more or going deep into the 8s you haven’t really upgraded, you just made a lateral move and added some nice or different noises to the car.

So going from a vortech to a Whipple is not considered an upgrade?
