New to tuning. Lots of friends that tune their diesel trucks, but I have never done one. What are the pros/cons of tuning? How do you find someone that really knows what they’re doing?

Also, can you get a unit that has more than one tune? Mileage, speed, etc? Thanks!

Start here and read up a bit.

It's not your only option, but it's surely the most common choice.

Get the Ford Performance tune ....least risk, you know it works. After that Cobb. Get a Garrett Intercooler either way and vented oil cap.

Since I have HPP there is no Ford tune avail and have enough power...almost did COBB though.

If you go the ford performance tune route, just be aware that you cannot go back to stock tune yourself, dealer only can return to stock tune for a fee in 18+ ecos..

So, with the Cobb you could reset back to the original factory tune?

I don't know the EB specifically but I would not be so sure of this?

I have the Ford Performance tune for my GT with their ProCal 4 tool and it lets me return to stock.

While I haven't tuned my HPP .. yet, undecided. I used Livernois on my 17 Fusion Sport and it made a difference. 93 tune, better gas mileage, when I kept my foot off the throttle. Quicker response throttle wise. Had the tune on there for about 45000 miles before I traded the car in, never had an issue with it.

I went Livernois because of their experience with the Ecoboost platform. If I tune my HPP, they will probably be the direction I go back to.

It's only the 18+ Mustang EcoBoost's that are not allowed to return to stock from FP tune, all other platforms have the ability to return to stock including the 15-17 Mustang EcoBoost's. Read the "note" at bottom of 18+ EcoBoost FP tune page.

Tuner choice is critical for the ecoboosts

My advice dont go lund

Otherwise, get quality mods and do oil changes on time 4500-5000milws

With a good tuner these engines are very reliable and run great power for what they are, my old 2.3 eco made 390whp 480whtq on fbo stock turbo stock motor.

The motors are safe up to 400whp, blocks up to 500whp. After that you need a 2.0 block and make it a 2.3L or 2.5L

Go for it, enjoy it. Youll get better milage and more power from the more effecient tune, but as always more power more problems. If you want factory reliability and guarentees, dont tune. You can make them as reliable as stock with good choices though. Research is your friend as i find that the info is out there but alot of tuners and especially shops dont really know the 2.3l eco well enough

Slight off topic, but I have always wondered if it was possible to go from the FP turn into a Cobb tune without ever reverting to stock? I suppose its more dependent of the tuning device?

I have never tried it but have read it's not suggested to try to go from FP to Cobb without going back to stock first, very possible to brick the PCM.

Maybe someone has done so or has more experience could add input.
