Wtf. The mustang filter must just be cheaper then the last filter i bought some years ago.

10.50 is a good price for an Ea. I wont spend more or less then 7-12 bucks on a filter. I like bosch because its cheaper and uses the same filter housing as an m1 filter and good for at least 7500 miles. Pureones for the price and great housing design as well. I usually only resort to m1 filters when bosch or pureones arent made for my application. Glad to hear the amsoil is at least cheap for the gt.

I wouldnt leave that oil in a car all year. Id run better oil if you want to do that. Its tbn levels dont even finish that high to want to leave motorcraft in that long. Im not suggesting it needs to be amsoil. At least pennzoil ultra, it has higher tbn levels. Its your car though.
I will be changing my first two oil changes in 6 months interval with MC blend and then switch to a full synth and start doing the 12 months interval.
Oil does not really degrade much by sitting tho.

Its about its additive package and its tbn levels. Higher tbn oils neutralize a greater amount of acidic materials. That gives an improved protection against corrosive reactions and longer oil life. After some miles get on that oil your protection becomes sub par on Motorcraft. Thats horrible for a car that sits majority of the year.

I pay $10.xx also for the Amsoil filter but keep in mind that price is for preferred customers which I am.

Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic + Motorcraft FL500S filter every 7500 miles. That's less than $40 in materials twice a year for oil changes. Works for me. When my cheap supply of T6 runs out, I'll likely start using Mobil1 0W-40 and the same filter.

Best,

Just changed mine for the first time @ 800 miles. Used a K&N filter and Motorcraft 5W-20 Synthetic Blend. I'll change again @ 2000 miles and every 6 months or 4000 miles, which ever comes first, thereafter, with Mobil 1 full synthetic. I'll go with a different, high quality filter though, probably Bosch, my usual brand. The K&N's length was kinda a PITA working with.

I suggest everybody seriously read this... It's long but well worth the time
Very interesting read, but not sure how valid the end results are. He doesn't go into a lot of detail on testing methodology. I will definitely research some of his top rated oils. I would have liked to see just a straight rating without the "Prolong" treatment mixed with oil to muddy up the waters.

Surprisingly, the Amsoil oils aren't rated highly in there. I also noticed Pennzoil Ultra up at the top, where I wouldn't have even considered them before. I've used Mobil 1 with great results, so I can see why they're up at the top. Although, they've changed the formula so many times who knows what you're getting these days or if it's even the same stuff that was tested.

Judging by previous use for the past 8 years of Amsoil's Sig Series and multiple oil analysis reports, it's a great oil that has lasted through some long drain intervals. That was on a V-6, though, and a different animal entirely.

I guess I've got some research and comparisons to do with Amsoil/Pennzoil/Mobil 1...

I did some research and qsud is definitely not doing better then pennzoil ultra or amsoil from what i could find anywhere. Its a good cheap oil over motorcraft though.

I think any oil that makes the grade (SN?) would do be perfectly fine in our cars. I would not let it go over the 5K perhaps, but it is probably fine to take it to whatever the computer says.

Call me old fashioned.....but I completely ignore the oil life monitor and go purely based on the odometer. 7500 miles.

Best,
i never go buy monitors. I change at the interval i want.

What oil do you use Mustang Guy?
Amoil, Motul and Pennzoil ultra or platinum when ultra is unavailable. Also it depends on the purpose of the car of what oil i use or how long i want to leave it in, if the car doesnt see more then 3-5k a year. But those are the three brands i use.

If the car sees a lot of beating on it, amsoil or motul. If it sees 3-5k in a year, amsoil. If its not something beat on a lot and or a daily driver, Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum. If i were to go 7500k or more(which i wouldnt do, i only do 5k) Id use amsoil.

If its a beat up beater, pennzoil YB or castrol gtx.

I just put in Pennzoil ultra in today. Not expecting miracles and all just figure it's better than motorcraft synthetic blend. I'm not going to post OMG I gained 10 horsepower, better response, and 10 MPG by changing my oil!
