Now apple people will need new usb: Reason : apple is full of scumbags and always find ways to extract money. It could have easily be done using normal USB but apple will not allow port opening so use it.
Not even close, but nice try. BTW, what do you mean by:

It means, the entire software architecture by default does not allow any USB ports to work. Thats why many people jailbreak there IOS devices o enable that.
Its not your device rather its how apple IOS is made. Apple does not like giving control over its stuff until its their proprietor things.

I'm not sure where you're getting this misinformation, that's not the case. I don't think you're understanding the fundamentals of how USB operates, or the requirements for Car Play.

FWIW, I've been a developer, architect, author for ~25 years in the tech sector, web, mobile, [currently] VR/CV, crypto, embedded systems, contributed to some publications for both Android and iOS dev, been on both of the primary platforms since their inception.

So shed some light.. How does car play requirements using same USB change as compared to android?

and how does miraculously same USB ports start working even on PCs once you jailbreak the apple IOS .

Was that English?

Anyway, my car should get here this week. I am fully expecting to plug my iPhone in and have carplay. I will be using the usb cable that came with my phone... no extra purchases required... no hacking and opening ports... no jailbreakOS on my phone.

You're totally right, he's not even talking about the port (another point - one of many - of confusion).

The iPhone doesn't mount as a USB storage device, i.e., you plug it in and is shows up like a USB thumb drive - which has _nothing_ to do with the USB implementation (as that's standard on the external side of the lightning specification in terms of host connection).

In fact, you don't even have to JB an iOS device to access the filesystem, there are apps like iMazing that allow direct access. However, there's really no point in mounting the filesystem, there are APIs specifically for management of media, documents, etc., that's all handled through services like iTunes, iCloud, and even 3rd party apps that implement the correct interfaces.

exactly thats my point sir. It is restricted . Once you jailbreak and you have those apis in, it works just like an android device. We are talking same stuff but with different directions.and i am not only talking about file system per say. I talking about controlling the phone like you can do in android.
I totally agree there is no need of mounting the file system.

Now iphones can very well work with usb that we have in 2016s, with few tweaks to base IOS. but apple doesn't want us to do that. We can discuss this on a private message chat. Its fun to discuss technology.

The problem is mounting the device via USB and Apple's limitations of that has nothing to do with CarPlay working in pre-2017 Sync3 cars. CarPlay requires USB 3.0 ports and the ports in the pre-2017 are not USB 3.0, it's that simple.

I looked up the part in Ford's website:
14D202A
Ford
USB Cable And Connector
Human Machine Interface 4 Less ICE Noise Reduction Human Machine Interface 3
$38.47

That is the one that is in the 2016 Mustang Premium. I am curious what is the new part number for the 2017 Mustangs. If we could get that we could just order it. It installs under the console and runs up to the Audio Accessory Interface.
