I'm sure I asked this somewhere before but can't remember so apologies if I have.

Quick question for the people with Sync 3 and no satnav. If I was to plug an iPhone in, would I be able to use the Sync3 Apple maps as my "builtin" satnav rather than having to spec a Mustang up with Satnav? It's a £700 option that I don't really want to spec, despite it coming with the sub and 11 speakers rather than the 9 speaker system that the standard UK cars come with.

As soon as my car gets here I will let you know. That's exactly how I specified my order.

I am pretty sure that the plugging your phone in every time thing is accurate. Maybe eventually it will do this wirelessly? Who knows.

Also, using Apple maps is using your data plan and not "loaded" maps that the sat/nav would come with.

True, and you would also experience the coverage dropped areas of the cell phone rather than the in car nav, which just always works.

I've only had 1 drive that this would have mattered on, but it is to be considered.

Must plug in. I use the USB in the storage bay between the seats which keeps my phone out of sight. Here's a photo I took with the iPhone plugged into the USB port underneath the front console.

Thank you everyone for the replies, I don't mind it using the data plan or plugging it in, it doesn't use that much of the data plan anyway and it's a work phone that I'm fully in control of.

Another quick question, can you use Apple maps along with the Spotify app to listen to your music?

Been waiting for my 16 to be able to do that... Thanks a lot Ford. I would have waited 2 months to buy had I known that they would drop the ball. Although I wouldn't have ended up with Guard had I.

Yes, Maps will interrupt the music when it needs to give directions. I use it with iTunes and Pandora without a problem. I am assuming Spotify will work the same way. When Maps is running and you switch to another application, there's a shortcut back to Maps on the upper left of the screen. Very handy.

Yes and the voice commands are taken over by Siri, so you can ask her all of your normal questions and send texts etc.

so here how it works:

apple car play and android auto: basically these are mobile platforms based on overlaying the GUI(graphical interface unit) over any device. You can easily correlate with something like apple watch or android gear watch.
So basically as soon as you plug in, you system is overlay-ed over your sync 3 module.
So you can use functionality of you phone using the screen of your car. Its pretty similar again like smartwatches, only exception being you need wire here to connect.

Now apple people will need new usb: Reason : apple is full of scumbags and always find ways to extract money. It could have easily be done using normal USB but apple will not allow port opening so use it.

Andriod: open source system, so you can do anything and mold it as per needs.

VOice commands: yes siri will take over for apple people and OK Google for android people.
