cheers for heads up, that downloaded surprisingly easily and awfully quickly. Wonder if it'll install quite as easily.... MY17 so yeah see what happens haha

Hi Greg. By any chance does your site give any indication of what the update includes? Inquiring minds would love to know just what Ford is doing. :giggle: :like:

No it doesn't but hopefully the fix for the USB bug is included.

It also includes DAB logos for the UK so I assume this will be turned on as part of the install. Early v3.2 and v3.3 didn't have this (even after updated to v3.4) whereas later cars do.

It's about 3Gb so pretty standard for a Sync update (about 20 minutes)

Assume you have updated your APIM as otherwise the update wouldn't apply to you ? Under normal circumstances you are stuck on v3.0

you would certainly believe to be stuck, i used my VIN so we'll see what it does. It did say, SYNC update before Maps update so aye fingers crossed it does something useful. Now where did I leave that special USB drive..

What version are you on now ?

There is also a new v3.0 update available so I suspect that is what you have. Have a look in the file autoinstall.lst and look at the top / second line. V3.4 says the following:

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.4.50 - Only for Nav/EU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.4.20282_PRODUCT]

Must admit I haven’t done any Sync updates to mine yet so will have to give this a go soon and hope it’s not too much of a pain lol

Yes that is the v3.0 update. You cannot get v3.4 other than by using an update hack.

I've never had a problem on a whole load of different Fords. Important you get the USB drive correct. Needs to be MBR partitioned (usually the case in Windows) and ExFat formatted.

I have just updated mine to 20282 via USB. I can confirm DAB station logos but other than that havent really played with it.

I had to format my USB to FAT32 as sync couldnt recognise my 128gb USB when I used exFAT, fully formatted on my Windows 10 laptop three times but sync wouldnt have it, then i went to FAT32 and it worked 1st time and took approx 20 minutes.

Now Ford update site is saying a 14gb map update is available, how long is that going to take?
What cheese me off is my car was in just before xmas and they didnt update sync (maybe is wasnt available then) but also the fact that my car connects to WiFi at home, bloody fast WiFi broadband but is unable to do this update in the background whilst idle, piss poor design as when i perform a sync update is renders in car entertainment and navigation useless whilst it does it, i heard the map takes an hour!!!!!! i rarely drive for an hour!!!!

You cant even leave the car on (either engine on or engine off) as it turns off after a while in idle.

I have a trickle charger hooked up to mine so it would be fine

14Gb maps update will take about 45 minutes - not checked yet as I haven't done my Sync update yet but there is usually a key cycle in the middle and then the voice files get loaded.

It wasn't available until after Christmas.

14Gb even over good WiFi will take ages - unless you can park the car next to the router - and even then .... The onboard WiFi used to be wireless g, not sure if newer cars are wireless n.

Newer cars update in the background using the onboard modem so it has been sorted now.

Bit confused about the update on your car - I have no problems using the system (even the nav) when the update is taking place. It has on all versions of Sync 3 I have used.

It’s really really laggy, unusable when it does a sync firmware update for me. I’ve done 3.3 to 3.4 and now to this latest version. Not sure how laggy it is when a map update only is being done.

My 2019 connects via 5GHz Wi-fi and I have MESH that covers the garage, I know not all have this and like you said it’s sorted in the later cars with an inbuilt modem. Just a bit frustrating.

I probably won’t bother with the map update as I use CarPlay for navigation and the Ford update site just sits there saying it’s preparing the download and has been like that for about an hour and a half. Not even downloading anything.
