I got a 2015 mustang gt base
With sync 1 with 4inch screen
But the 2 usb ports stop working,
Sync Bluetooth and voice recognition stopped working

I have removed batery
I have checked fuses

Still nothing
So i want to buy a used sync module
Part nr : FR3T-14D212-MA
My question is can this module be replaced with a used one?
And if so is there programming needed?

Hope to hear from you guys soon
Thanks

I cannot speak to the specific PN# needed, but can provide some reference information.

Yes, APIM Programmable Module Installation (PMI) is necessary. Those that are good with the Ford Diagnostic and Repair System (FDRS) or FORScan might be able to accomplish the PMI themselves.

These two threads will offer some replacement APIM sources. There are probably more within 6G.

Someone overseas has posted what appears to be a Ford Service Manual. It provides specific insight.

"Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Programming

Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) programming is a process that updates the APIM Consumer Interface Processor (CIP) and Vehicle Interface Processor (VIP) software. The VIP programming updates the calibration files in the portion of the APIM that interfaces with the Controller Area Network (CAN). The CIP programming updates calibration files in the portion of the APIM that interfaces with mobile phones and other customer devices.

APIM programming uses the Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) to read and program the VIP software through the Data Link Connector (DLC). A web-based On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) application is used to read and program the CIP software via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable between the scan tool and the vehicle USB port. Both the VCM and the OASIS application must be running on the scan tool during APIM programming. To carry out APIM programming, refer to Section 415-00 ."

Finally, I'm attaching some general SYNC and Tech Information.

I did not read through Skye's references so this may be in there somewhere.
Sync is programed to your car using the VIN.
When the APIM failed in my Edge I found the best price at "Allthingssync" out of, if I recall, Chicago. Provide them with your VIN and the part comes programed and is plug and play. My Edge has Sync 2 but I believe they sold all the versions. I'm about a year after replacement and zero issues.

Might as well upgrade to an 8 inch screen.

I would honestly go with an aftermarket kit before I attempted using a used APIM.

First, these APIMs are trash to start, sad but true. Second, factory APIMs have two levels if programming, one from the provider (either United Radio or AER Tech) that is provided to them by Ford and then it is programmed again at the dealer with Ford IDS and both sets of programming are VIN specific. According to United Radio you can't use an APIM designated for one vehicle for a different despite them needing the same part number and being sinilar vehicles one due to the programming.

Now I'm sure there is a way to make a used one work, but I can't imagine it'd be worth the price and trouble when they make all sorts of aftermarket upgrades. Besides, this could be a good time to jump to the 8" screen!
