So...after 8 beers later. I have come to the conclusion that going from MFT to Sync 3 isn't as bad as it sounds.

So my wife picked up a 2017 Fusion with Sync 3 w/out Nav. She insisted on having Nav. So of course the dealership was like $2000 installed. She knows about Carplay and how it works. I tried to talk her out of buying the Nav complete unit. But when she said I could put the one currently in her Fusion into my Mustang, I was like hmmm, I don't care for the Nav, but sync 3 yes. So long story short. She tacked on the Nav to her car payment. And soon I will have the currently installed Fusion Sync 3. Once I get all the needed parts to convert MFT to Sync 3 I will put it in myself.

Reading this thread from beginning to end I managed to see the hard work put in by you guys. Well done!!!

Super easy!! You'll just need the screen then, which you can get out of any Ford or Lincoln that has Sync 3, and the usb hub with adapter for the hub (make or buy). Then program it with ForScan software. :headbang:

Too bad you didn't mention it earlier before working the deal with the dealership; I would have traded you a Nav APIM for a non-Nav, as I'm getting ready to put Sync 3 in my friend's Focus and he said he didn't care if it had Nav or not, but the one I procured happens to have it.

Just remember different cars have different brackets so reuse your MFT brackets.

Just returned my V6 back to stock (possibly trading it in on something). Boy, the stock stereo looks dumb and I'm going to miss the drive modes.

Anyone have luck with finding the correct APIM/touchscreen brackets? I bought a unit from a Focus, but still need the brackets.:frusty:

Ask mgrey If not someone will need to start sourcing custom brackets again.

I just scored a 2017 c max screen and nav apim for 285 shipped. I heard c max has the same mounting brackets as our mustangs. Now I need a gps antenna and a forscan obd2 scanner. Anybody have a link for those items?

The 1st post has a link to a GPS antenna. There are plenty of ELM327 adaptors available, you can google it and find them. Just make sure they have a HS-CAN and MS-CAN switch. Or drive to Columbus and I'll activate your mode switch.

That’s the same antenna I got. Looks like the ELM adapter should work. I got this one and it works great:

OHP Ford ELMconfig USB device 500kbit/s ELM327 compatible interface with MS-CAN switch for Forscan FoCCCus Mazda OBD2 diagnostics https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F0GVBWY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZrxhAb2ZJ8ZBK

If the Cmax brackets don’t work, you can reuse the MFT brackets if you have them.
