Did the update via USB drive and it seems to have worked. One question: should a CarPlay icon appear anywhere within Sync? I see a new Android Auto icon in Settings, but no CarPlay. Perhaps it just appears after 1) swapping to the new USB hub and 2) connecting an iPhone?

Yes, that is correct. The icon appears when you connect the iPhone after you have swapped to the new USB hub.

Tank did you get the auto update? Mine says "down loading updates" but the status bar never moves.

lemers, I didn't attempt this as planned yesterday. Time permitting I'll get to it this week and post how I do.

According to owners.ford it will take up to 30 days to download it OTA & about 30 minutes via flash drive.
True. Flash took about 20 min with the car running. I guess it's part of the download but my car shut off by itself when it finished.

Another note, I downloaded the link from the Ford website but with no success, that is until I used disk utility on my mac and formatted the USB to ExFAT. I also downloaded Stuffit Expander and unzipped the file through that. Whatever it did, it worked, finally.

Steps- (at least this is what worked for me)
1-downloaded link from Ford.
2-open disk utilities and reformat USB to ExFAT
3-load unzip files to USB
4-Plug in to car and wait 25-30 min
5-Replace arm rest USB port with upgraded part
6-enjoy apple play.

I tried the USB method with two different USB sticks and had it only hang for over an hour and a half. I gave in and forced an update check by triggering a master reset. It seems the update hasn't rolled out to everyone yet. Maybe tonight I'll try reformatting the USB stick to exFAT instead of FAT32.

Im trtong tge update right now with a USB. Its been in for the last 30 mins. The car turned off in the middle of it. I have no status bar just a message at the top showing the its updating.

The wifi had connected a couple days ago and had a status bar but it didnt complete the update.

If i go oit in another half hour and nothing Ill do the hard reset and try again with the USB.

This is getting old quick

From what I've read so far, recommendations include using a 32 GB USB with exFAT formatting....

Do the hard reset, what do you have to lose?

I did the exfat format, but only used a 4 gb drive. Are the file truly almost 32 gb?

No sure on the file size but the recommendations on the Ford site have been updated to use a 32 GB. Apparently, files are written back on the USB for reporting back to Ford...

I had zero issues with a 4g fat32 drive. The files are only about 2 gigs so I don't know where all this issues are coming from.

I just got this working using the USB method and a 64 GB USB 3.0 thumb drive. I formatted the drive with a Windows machine and default settings (right click on the drive > format). The update took ~20 minutes.

Prior to the USB method, I tried WIFI but it didn't prompt any updates even after a master reset.

The hardest part was replacing the module, and that just required a little more elbow grease than anticipated.

Thanks, all!
