So would my the Waze app on my phone show up on the Nav screen? Sorry, I haven't read up on what this car play deal is.
Yes, Waze recently announced they will support Android Auto. Since I believe they are now owned by Google, not sure it will be available with car play.

My 17 has AA already installed but no matter what I try I can't get it to work. I'm using an S7 edge which is the latest Galaxy and I'm an IT guy but this has me baffled. I'm doing everything right and still no joy.

Glad to know it's not all roses on the other side either. :)

I assume you've tried using a different USB cable?

Yup used the Samsung cable. Set the phone to MTP and turned on mirror link which only lets you turn it on when connected. Still nada. I have not spent a ton of time on it. Waze will be available on AA but is not yet and that is the primary App I will use.

Is there a discussion thread about how to add Sync 3 and/or android auto to a 2016 Track Pack?

Ford will release a software update by the end of summer for Android Auto for the 16's. I think there *may* be hardware needed for CarPlay.

On a different note, I was finally able to get Android Auto working in my 17. User error :)

I'm assuming the head unit/display would have to be swapped out as well, right?

No, the 2016 equipped with Ford's Sync 3 will be able to run the Car Play software. The hardware that is needed is a certain type of USB connection.

My 2017 has this, but to be honest, I like the Sync 3 with bluetooth connect better. I will probably turn it off so I can use the USB to charge my phone and just run off bluetooth using the Sync 3 interface.

Can you run phone map apps through Sync 3 without the Android or Car Play?

I asked about a TRACK PACK 2016. Track Pack gets Sync (2), right? If I get a track pack, I would want to upgrade the system to run Android Auto with the larger display.

Android Auto is cool but the apps for it are very, very limited at this time. Waze will support it but who knows when. I don't bother using it unless I'm using Maps.

Need for hardware upgrade for pre '17 confirmed by Ford in earlier post in this thread. However, hardware specifics not provided.
Those of you with '17s, could you check to see what your USB ports are? This might give us pre '17s an idea of what the upgrade is.
Thanks!
