Swapping Dash Instruments/dials (how are they programmed)?

So I have a 2017GT with an analogue dash. I want to purchase another set of analogue dials to customise.

Will these be plug and play and simply display the wrong miles? Or will they not work at all without being “programmed” to my car?

How are they programmed and can you have more than one set matched to a single car so you could swap them? Or can only one set ever be matched to a cars ecu?

If it was a different part and you needed to enable different options like display of the oil temperature, etc then you'd need to use Forscan to make modifications.

Forscan can also update the mileage, but only forward. They do not allow mileage to be rolled back.

I have no idea how the car behaves if you try to go back and forth between instrument clusters. I would expect that it is mated to your VIN so there would be some programming involved or at least a module copy from the old to new cluster.

Thank you, that thread makes me think that if you swap with the same year/model they will probably work fine it will just be the mileage that is out.

I'd always thought the odo information was stored in the PCM? And if that was replaced, the new unit would have to have the mileage programmed by the dealer?
