Ford claims that the glass roof in the S197 Mustangs has the same torsional rigidity as the steel roof in the coupes.

I don't care what anyone says, the lack of a sunroof made me think twice about the Mustang. I really wish it was an option.

Lots of mention about the drainage problems of the sunroof. Nissan solved the problem 100% by offering a glass roof panel that does not open. The light and open feeling is provided without any water issues. I rented a Maxima car that had one in the front and in the rear. It was very nice.

Don't forget, one thing they were trying to battle during the design of the S550 was weight. Sunroofs weigh an awful lot when you add in glass, motors, extra stiffening, etc. Another reason would be trying to stave off premature rust which has been the bane of many a sunroof-equipped car in the past.

I for one am glad the new Mustang does not have a sunroof option. After 7 years of having one in my Tiburon, you start to realize just how useless they really are.

That would be the opposite of what I wanted, if I wanted a sunroof of some sort. The few times I used my sunroof on my last couple cars, it was for fresh air, not light. In fact, I tried to keep the shade closed even when the roof was open.

I've probably used sunroofs in all of my cars once or twice a year. When I had my Edge limited, that was pretty awesome but still hardly used it. Now, if T-tops were an option like my 1991 300zx TT that would be awesome or like the Corvettes/Supras, whatever. Probably will never happen due to weight.

I've never owned a vehicle with a sunroof/moonroof. I've occasionally wondered what it was like but I never felt motivated to buy a vehicle with one. Honestly I'm not sure if I'd like it or not.

I have had sunroofs on every non convertible car and truck I ever owned. Even with the roof mounted wind deflector installed, with the roof open, the noise is uncomfortable and interferferred with the radio and conversation.

The only problem roof I had with an ongoing headache with an Mercedes CLK500. It refused to close fully. I always had to use the metal crank that stores in the glove box. Never had any leaks. Generally, I end up using the sunfoof/moonroof in the reverse end open (lifted) position to exhaust air flow the air better. When the roof angle up at the rear, there is no penalty of wind noise. I leave the sunscreen fully open unless the sun is directly overhead. A convertible is about 10,000% better.

Agree. My previous Acura cars were sedans and it worked well with those cars. I enjoyed them. But on a coupe like the Mustang it would kill headroom and add weight.

Every new car I have purchased since the mid 80s has had either a sunroof or t-tops until my 15 Mustang. I have enjoyed them and never had any leak issues.

The shape of the new Mustang does not lend itself to a sun roof but I bet they could install a t or targa top fairly easily.
