Hopefully a simple/quick question. I'm installing a 10" sub into my 2018 GT with a relatively small Kicker amp (CXA400.1, 150W into 4 ohms).

Where should I pull the power for the amp? Come directly off the battery, or piggy-back off one of the positive terminals in the under-hood fuse box?

I feel like the fuse box option is cleaner since the battery cables in this car don't have a ton of extra space/bolts, etc... but I also don't want to confuse the BCM or any of the active power management stuff.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

To the battery. You can use a copper eyelet and install it on the tightening bolt. Then install your inline fuse holder inside the battery box. There’s a hole in the top of the firewall that is hidden by the battery box cover which works well for routing the power wire down behind the wheel well liner. From there you can run it into the firewall by drilling a hole or poking it through the wire bundle boot.

I recommend 4 gauge wire for that amp. It’s more than you need but you’ll have enough wire diameter for more power down the road later should you want more sub output.

Thanks everybody. I'll go to the clamp bolt. Inside the battery box is also an excellent place for the fuse.

Taking my time with this and will probably run the power wire next weekend. I have the sub installed, amp mounted the back of the passenger rear seat. Ground wire is installed to one of the rear seat bracket bolts, and I tested continuity/resistance from the amp lug to various other points on the body.

Looking OK, but I'm getting too old for this. :)

You’re almost there. Let us know how it sounds when you power it up.
