I have a question. Can't find the answer so far. I am wanting to put a trunk Cargo/Mat in the back of my Mustang GT Premium, 400A Package and there are two options for it. One is designed for a subwoofer in the trunk and the other is designed WITHOUT the subwoofer in the trunk. How do I know if I have a subwoofer or not in my vehicle? Obviously I don't have possession of it yet.

Thanks!

Unless you added the Shaker audio, you have no sub in the trunk.

To be clear (for anyone else that may use this thread) the 400a also has a shaker system, but it's a 9 speaker. The shaker pro is the one with the sub in the back right corner. If you have package 401a you need the one with a sub cutout.

Factory sub mounting holes

I recently Fat Matted my trunk and found that my non-shaker 400a still has the threaded holes for the factory upgraded subwoofer. Something to think about if you make your own enclosure. I'll try to post a pic later.

The perspective is a little off on the picture, but the threaded holes form a perfect rectangle. There is also a grommet there too, not sure if that is used with the factory sub.

You didn't happen to notice if the wiring harness was there to plug in the factory amp and sub?

There's a bracket back there with an empty harness slot on it, but I didn't trace it back to see where it went. I also don't have the wiring diagrams for a shaker to compare to.

Here's a pictorial on getting to that part of the trunk, if somebody with a Shaker wants to take a look at where the sub harness goes.

Obviously, you'll have to un-bolt the Shaker sub at some point in this process. I have a base GT, so I can't show that step.

1) Remove these four knobs on the trim piece near the trunk latch. They may not want to thread all the way off, but with some coercion they'll come free.

2) Pull DIRECTLY up on the trunk trim first to pop it loose. It's held in place by claw clips that descend vertically into the rear of the trunk. Once it pops loose, you can push it inward (toward the front of the car) to maneuver it off the four threaded posts that the knobs were on in step one.

3) (This is probably where you need to un-bolt the sub if you have a Shaker system). Next, you need to pry the trunk liner back. This typical interior clip is the only thing holding it firmly in place. I don't recommend trying to pry the clip out of the liner. Instead, just stick your fingers between the liner and the seal on either side of the clip, get a good grip on the liner, and yank it inward (toward the middle/driver's side). The trim clip should pop right out of the metal while still attached to the liner.

4) You may hear a metallic clicking noise in step three. That's the magnet that holds the liner to the side of the trunk near the top. It looks like this. You don't need to do anything with it.

5) Pull the liner down and away from the side of the trunk, and you'll see this. I'm guessing those with a Shaker system will have the sub plugged in where the empty socket is in my car.
