Stripe decals seem thick...

I always envisioned stripes on Performance Pack, GT350, etc. were thin appliques under a clear coat.

However, I'm looking at a 2021 GT with stripes that appear to match spec, but the material seems thicker than I expected, almost like a cut polyurethane film. I can definitely feel the edge running my fingers across the hood and elsewhere.

I'm wondering if they could be after market. Also concerned the wind might eventually cause the leading edge to peel up over time, especially if it's not clear coated.

Does this sound like stock?

I think the GT500 had a painted stripe option for $10,000 (!), otherwise all other factory stripes are decals.

Stumbled across a vendor advertising OEM stripes as 3M vinyl - didn't list the thickness, though

Very few cars have painted stripes anymore. Almost all are just stickers.

Almost all vinyl for vehicle stripes/wraps (aside from colored PPF) will be more or less the same thickness. You'll feel an edge on all of it. All S550 mustang stripes from the factory were vinyl with a noticeable edge except for the $20,000 painted strip option on the CFTP GT500's
