Hi all, my 2019 GT CPO came with pretty much brand new Kumho Ecsta 4X II tires (235/50 R18). After a year of driving (9k miles), I noticed chipping on the treads. Mainly on the front tires. The tread still has a lot of depth, not even close to the wear indicator. I’m wondering what’s going on with them? Are they shot? I never took the car to the track, never driven off road or on rough terrain, but I do occasionally do some spirited drives around canyons.
Any suggestions/advice is appreciated.

Can you take a picture of the production stamp. Maybe they are very old, looks like they are dry rotted.

Ya, that doesn’t look good. Especially for 9K miles. I’d be looking into warranty.

The outer edge does look like dry rot. I've never seen chipping like that on street tires before. Looks more like damage you'd see on service vehicles, tractors, fork lifts, etc.
Pretty sure I'd be looking for new tires. Not sure I'd even want to have them replaced with the same ones under warranty. Probably would look a the Michelin or Continentals.

Are both front 2 of them like this or this is only front right tire?
For me it's old ("dry") right front tire, frequently driven very close - or even over - the edge of asphalt during spirited driving around canyons.

Any suggestions/advice is appreciated.
Buy new tires (check DOT before the purchase) from other manufacturer (Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone).
Don't cut the corners that deep.
Use winter tires over the winter and summer for the rest of the year.
You shouldn't see this problem again.

chunking is also the sign of a tire defect. I got my mother 2 tires replaced under warranty for chunking. Mom is 84 and doesn’t drive a mustang.
