Strange...Radiator Cap Separated on Overflow Tank?

I thought I would do a little preventive maintenance today and went to take off the radiator cap. So I turned the cap and eventually, the top of the cap came off...but the core remained! Any quick ideas how to remove it?

get the engine up to temperature.and it will probably blow off.
A towel on top to prevent carnage.

i saw this similar on another thread. i believe he used needle nose pliers to twist and remove

When you get it out use some silicone on the o ring.

Thanks to Chef's idea, I heated it up with a hair dryer, put some PB Blaster on it to get between the O-ring and tank, and still had to cut it to pull it out.

Then, I coated the O-ring and contact points with a light layer of liquid teflon so that it would not bond to the housing.

My suggestion...open the cap periodically so that the cap does not seize.

My cap seized as well and it separated from the cap.

Must be the Oxford white color that causes a transpheric amorphous reaction between the caloric exchange rate of the plastic jellyfish housing and the case-hardened plastic cap shroud.

That's my explanation...and staying with it!

After reading this thread I used some silicone grease on the O-ring on the coolant tank cap. I popped the O-ring off the cap to get the silicone grease coated over the entire O-ring. The cap seems to screw on and off easier now.
