Yeah seems like the play in the pedal I’ve got isn’t normal, I’ll take the issue up with steeda and maybe they can get me a replacement. Could be that it’s defective and is just slightly off in size or tension and that’s what’s causing the slack in the pedal.
I would definitely look into the slack in the pedal...I don't think that should be a result of the spring install. You could put the stock one back in and see if the play is still there. If its gone then an issue with the Steeda spring. Now some guys are leaving the spring out all together. Doing that I would expect there to be some free play.

Steeda spring, SRP pedals, and the Lowes gas pedal spacer and I'm back to feeling like I know how to drive a manual again.

I traded in my 09 GT500 with SRP pedals and had grown so used to the pedal placement and McLeod clutch that the new car felt like I was learning to drive manual all over again practically. The 3 mods above have everything right with the world. I can slip the clutch when needed, shift fast when needed, heel and toe with light braking, heel and toe with heavy braking. Suggest this setup to anyone who owns one of these cars.

yep, Steeda clutch spring S550 is a must have. Couldnt figure out why this car was so touchy on the clutch. As soon as I put in the Steeda spring...all good. buy with confidence. SRP pedals are next for me.

Anyone know whether the mustang GT also has the same dual stage clutch spring?

After using the Steeda spring, I decided to pull it and try no spring. It's the best, most "normal" feel. The Steeda, or any spring, mounted to the factory location is still providing resistance/support in a non-linear way. And my pedal comes fully to the top when I'm driving. Old school return springs are like garage door springs, they just stretch when the clutch/door is down and extended, then they pull bot back to the top as it rises in a linear motion because of the mounting points. The OEM spring mounting point is whacky!

I see no harm that can be done and have read up on this as well. After all, the clutch has springs in it as well.
This. I just popped the oem spring out (5 seconds no tool needed if you do it right — search here) and it’s perfect. Way lighter clutch still than my Aston Martin vantage and just like the vantage, perfectly linear. I probably could have gotten used to it if it was my only manual car, but it’s just damn weird and and like the non linear feel at all. Zero play up top or any issues for a year now in my R.

Best part of the mod = easy and free.
