Squirrel Problem

My car sits in a driveway in Tampa. I saw a pile of chewed acorns on top of the engine (Photo 1) yesterday and vacuumed them off. I looked under the hood this morning and saw more acorns (Photo 2), squirrel pee (3), and a squirrel crawling around in the engine bay. I covered the motor (I will remove it before driving) with foil (4) and sprayed it with insect repellant. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Both removing the food source and parking inside would be optimum, but I understand that might not be possible. You can also study any of the "critter" or "varmint" deterrent threads, by Google or 6G search, upper right. There are things that can be done, to make your location and vehicle less welcoming. They do have to be accomplished consistently, as squirrels in-particular can be aggressive, animated and territorial.

Start putting traps around exterior of the car. Dryer sheets supposedly deter some rodents.

Hose off that entire engine bay to remove all defecation and scents.

+1 on traps I use have a hart swuirrel traps baited with peanut butter
Put 2 traps out I on each side of front i put mine under the car.catchva couplevevery week

I havw to have my battery tested under warranty thursday and then my car is going into storage. Found mouse crap on the engine cover last week and after losing my garage space, keeping it outside all winter will not cut it. Rodents suck.

I use diluted peppermint oil in water and spray the engine compartments of all three of my vehicles. Never a problem

Yes to peppermint oil. I took cotton balls and put drops of peppermint oil on each one and stuck about 6 of them in between the top cover openings. Make sure you clean everything out first so you can see if there is any evidence of them returning. I have not had any rodents return ever since doing this. The scent will fade after time so refreshing or replacing them every once in a while keeps them working. Best of luck!

Well, the peppermint smell goes away. You won't smell it, but the animal will. It helps to keep mice away as well
