Spring rates????

OK guys, like the title says interested in what guys are finding is a good spring rate. I've stepped up a few times, but I'm thinking about going higher yet again.

What everyone doing? Also, spring length, shock company, swaybars, tires

Note: This will only apply to those with coilovers, and a true coilover rear.

My current.... 425 Front 600 Rear...ridetech triples/BMR bars

I'm 400 front and 450 rear with JRi (Cortex) shocks and BMR bars. To be honest I'm a noob at this so couldn't tell if I need more spring or not. Car handles great for me at the moment.

My 2009 had 550lbs/in front springs on it using 285 wide Extreme Summer Tires to compete in STU... I'd be hesitant to run less than that for any competition oriented car with a coyote in it... lots of weight over the nose compared to my 2009. I've played around with where I want my car to go once the fun runs out in FS. I could go run in STP for about $500 if I wanted to run BMR's handling springs, BMR's camber plates and my Koni's with both BMR bars... sadly, this would mean way softer spring rates than I'd normally run, but it would save me a lot of money. The front suspension geometry on these cars is a touch different and the roll center up front feels like it is higher than my 09's was stock.

A part of me wishes Kelly would allow me to do a test of the BMR handling springs before I buy them so I could see if it was enough spring rate for the drop... I don't know that they would do what I want them to. I remember my 2009 all too well... it was absolutely sublime how that car drove and I miss it dearly!

I recall BMR saying the F/R rates were 165/728 respectively.

I was running 650lb front springs and 1,640lb rear springs (in the stock location)

With JRZ RS Pro coil overs.

I felt the car was really good on ST tires and Hoosiers.

So your rear would be around a.....800lb in coilover location

About 125% F+B average spring rate increase over my stock GTPP springs.

If I had the option, I'd have 1.2" drop 220-ish front, .75" drop 760-ish rear springs.

What are the motion ratios front and rear? Discussing spring rates without knowing wheel rate is nearly a waste. One can sort of guess but knowing the actual ratio is required for the math. For example, I ran 750 conventional rates in front and 900 in the rear on my 01 Cobra. Wheel rates and resonance were nearly perfect for a street car. On the 86, I run 300 front C/O and 370-420 conventional rear; that results in too much rear (T/A suspension).

If the stock s550 PP springs are 178F/7xx rear, that means there is a big difference in motion ratio F/R. For the record, I queried Maximum Motorsports regarding the s550 motion ratios and they declined to reveal them. What is the secret here?

There is no secret! It's just takes a tape measure. The front is basically 1:1. The rear can be 2 different. I have a true coilover not and spring/shock combo. I'm currently at 500 front and 650 rear. There is more to have but I need my car to be good at autox and track duties. I like soft springs big bars, so I will prolly be making bars very soon with real rates and very stiff.

Rear is .492 I believe. I haven't looked back at it for probably almost 2 years now.

Generally speaking....the wheel rate relation is about 25% of the spring rate on the S550.

I'm working on a 1.5" Front bar right now. Just an FYI :headbang:
