Spitballing a remote controlled spoiler idea...

Instead of one that raised up and down, how about one that changed the angle of attack instead? That way you could take advantage of the wing creating down force when needed and less angle of attack to reduce drag and increase efficiency at other times.

That is an interesting idea. I like the Z06 spoiler.

Maybe something like this with actuators that go from it being completely flat to 90 degrees.

Exactly, adjust if you're at the track and put it back when driving on the street.

Whole point is to keep it adjustable on the fly from inside the car, at least for me.

One of the 24 hours of lemons teams did this about 5 years ago on their e30. IIRC, they tied the servo motor into the brake light switch, so that when they were on the brakes, the angle of attack went almost vertical to help with air braking and force the rear of the car down. The aesthetics of it were.....poor.

I'm an engineering manager and work with valves, actuators kind of stuff all the time. It would be a lot of custom work that is unnecessary unless you have a full blown race car dude :shrug:

I thought I would just mount the actuators inside the trunk with the stroke going through two holes in the hood and directly connected to the top of the spoiler. Seems simple to me assuming I account for the downforce when picking which actuators. I am not being sarcastic, I am not familiar with this stuff and appreciate any help.

Better to have something articulated like the fowler flaps on a jet liner.


Think minor rake of the trunk with a contained spoiler that is like a subtle GT350 duckbill.

At speed or under a programmed desired control point, they deploy outwards towards the back of the car and also rake upwards into the air stream. A single linear actuator along with a cam profile moulded to the ends of the spoiler could yield the desired effects.
