Edit: I got pulled over 4 times now in this car for absolutely BS reasons. 2 of them were simply for the cop to check out the car and talk to me. One of them was my most favorite, he thought this wasnt a street legal car. I had to show him the window sticker which showed 50 state emission status and he verified with the VIN number.
You carry your window sticker in your car? Mine is framed in my office at home.

The first thing I always do in any car I purchase is to fold the window sticker and put it inside the user manual booklet.

But for this car maybe I should frame it:)

Another good option is to order copy's from Staples or similar. Use 11x17 paper and a heavy weight paper. I used 80 lb paper. I got 4 copies. 2 laminated and 2 regular and the total was like 15 bucks. They are a tad bigger than the actual sticker but unless you hold them back to back, you can't tell.

Wow, I quite like that idea!

Both timed I've been pulled, the cop wasn't using tadar. Unmarked car observing in traffic. True, radar detectors will save you sometimes, but not always. Especially with this car.
You weren't speeding then you were doing something else. To be busted for speeding the cop has to be using something either radar or Laser to clock your speed. The ole eye ball radar not so good.

Never said I got a ticket. He never even asked for my DL, reg, or insurance card. His first question to me was what kind of car is this.

We chatted cars a bit and found out we knew the same people. No ticket.

I was speeding. It wasn't horrible, something like 60 in a 45 if I recall correctly. This car is loud. Sport mode was engaged and pipes were open. I leaned on it a bit off a light (nothing crazy) and down the road I got pulled over.

Maybe you missed the point about the unmarked car, but it was truly unmarked. Just out of curiosity, what are you driving? Do you have the Roush package with pipes that open or a 350? These things are loud and because of that, they are a cop magnet.

Cops will pull you for whatever reason they want. Whether he could have legally given me a ticket or not doesn't matter because he didn't. I stood out, he was a car guy, he pulled me over, and then he let me go.

Cops aren't stupid, actually they can be pretty savvy. They stop people for a living and don't always announce their presence with a constant beam of radar for your detector to warn you against. I have zero points on my license and am pretty good at spotting a cop on the road. However no matter how vigilant you are, you are not going to see them all.

There you go. Bingo. This car is a cop magnet

The title of the thread and the subject matter is : Speeding tickets: Who's getting them. Not : Getting pulled over: Who is it happening too.

The OP was asking about speeding tickets specifically from the subject of the thread. My point is purely that for a speeding ticket there has to be some device that shows your speed. That device outputs emission and there are devices that can detect that signal and tell you that the signal is present which means a cop is nearby. The cop can pull you over for many other BS reasons or to compliment your car which has also happened to me but that is not a speeding ticket.

This of course is not fool proof just like any other form of protection. The best protection is to not do it but if you must speed which I understand there are tools out there to help you mitigate the risk.

If you get a points ticket ALWAYS fight it. It's like "let's make a deal" now. Most municipalities are just looking for the cash. If you fight it you can typically it something knocked down to a less serious offense. My son got a ticket for 27 over which would have been 4 points. They knocked it down to 5 over and 1 point.
In FL, if you have a clean record and don't get pulled over a lot, you can easily get a "withhold". A withhold of adjudication means you pay the fine but do not get the points.

So yes, absolutely go to court. Inquire about a withhold or hire an attorney who specializes in stops. They know every loophole (such as radar log and calibration, training, legality of the stop, etc). If you plan to fight a ticket yourself, it may behoove yourself to observe a few sessions to see how the system works and how to use it to your advantage. YMMV.

Thank you for that clarification Dr. Ding

What radar/laser detectors is everybody using?

I'm in Phoenix Arizona area and I believe law enforcement uses both out here.

Oh, and BTW,

A cop can drive behind you or beside you and observe speed. No emission. You can still get a ticket.

Vascar is another example. White lines painted in the road and an airplane observes your time to cross them. There is no electronic emission on that either. Guess what, you are going to get a ticket.

At least we agree on something. You need to understand the tools and tactics of police and how they catch you. You don't always know where they are or where they are coming from.

Hi Tom. I agree with everything you said with the exception of hiring a lawyer. If you have a MAJOR offense, yes, get a lawyer. For minor offenses, lawyers can actually hurt you in my opinion. Many judges will not take well to bringing a lawyer in for a minor offense. It is your absolute right but the goal is not to show up the judge but to get the offense reduced or dismissed. Unless you have an open and shut case, I'd avoid a lawyer but that is just my opinion.

Agreed that those are other possibilities of ways to get caught but from my personal experience rare situations that do not happen all that often probably depending on the area you live in. Majority of the time it is with radar or laser and even with laser you are screwed because once the detector picks up laser its too late they have your speed. With laser the only way is really a laser jammer which are illegal in most states I believe.

As far as the question above a couple posts I am running an Escort Redline radar detector segmented to make it a Redline XR. This really only means certain K band frequencies bands are turned off to reduce false alerts.

I don't seem to be getting any more attention than my GT when driving around here with the Shelby, and i've been right along side cop cars numerous times.

I guess they just don't care for sports car as long as you behave.

Since my windows tint is not legal, i always make sure to roll down both of my windows to not draw attention.
