The 1200 rpm 6th gear at 45mph is what annoys me most on my car. Does it all the time on suburban type roads. The stock programming is ridiculous for the automatics- especially bad for a 3.15 diff. The whole car shudders and makes you hit the down paddle but then as soon as you let up on the gas at all, it shifts back up. My Ram did it too so I just drove it in tow mode around town. No option like that on the Mustang, though.
With my tune, the car doesn't move over into 6th gear until about 55mph.

If I am cruising at a constant speed on level ground I will shift my manual into 6th at 45 MPH but the engine definitely 'lugs.' Anything below about 50 MPH and trying to accelerate causes lugging in 6th. I believe that is the 'rumble' that is being referred to. I am surprised this is happening in the automatic cars and it has been calibrated to go into 6th at this low of a speed.

Lugging is bad for engines.

As far as accelerating in 6th at 'highway speed'; ie: 55+, a downshift is not required. This powertrain pulls well from that speed point, even in 6th.
I don't recommend flooring it in 6th gear under 65mph. If you are in an auto, hit the shift - paddle and give it some beans, and when you let off the throttle it will automatically shift up into 6th. If you are a manual, well...you know lol

Adam, maybe you should make a new thread about Low Speed Pre-Ignition, explaining what happens and why you shouldn't pull in 6th gear on the highway. I have NEVER heard of not doing this ever, even on turbo cars when I was researching them. This sounds like something serious that should be avoided to me.
Just don't floor it in a high gear at low speeds, read above.

So Adam, are you saying that with your tune it would be okay to use 6th gear at full throttle? If so you may have sold me. I don't mind downshifting but on long road trips it's nice to just leave it in 6th and let the torque do the work.
That is correct, but I don't recommend it even then.

I don't.

For me, unfortunately the plugs can be a forgotten piece of the puzzle and I'm plugnorant
I see the gap should be .026 - .028. I think it makes sense that if I'm going to check the plugs I may as well change the plugs.

What should I be going with?
I have a manual EB with CAI, full turbo back exhaust and Bama 93-Octane Race tune.

I vaguely remember that they type of plug should change depending on mods (is it cooler plug?)

Should the gap change based on mods?

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place but started reading through the tread that started with gaps and ended with LSPI.

NGK 6510s gapped to .026 or .028 depending on what feels best

I'm running Brisks now because the NGKs didn't hold up very well but I can't remember what they are called

I hope the NKG 6510s are good I just ordered them and plan to install as soon as I get them. My car is stock except for the ots tune.

The NGKs were great for a while but they eventually got fouled up. It may have just been the result of too small of a gap and a lot of miles on a richer than stock tune. I'm pretty sure I had them gapped to .026 and I probably put about 8k miles on them. When I took my car to Evolution Performance to get my t-stat installed they gave me the brisks. They are working well so far. I have them gapped to .028

I don't think there is anything wrong with the NGKs and I haven't heard many ppl have problems with them on here but Evo did say the Brisks run better

I just changed my plugs to NGK 6510, all gapped to .028.
The stock plugs we between .034 and .036.

Quick Tip: After close to 30 years of use, the rubber in my 5/8 spark plug socket no longer held the SP in place. The flip side... my new socket, wont let go of the plug! After installing the SP, my extension would separate at the socket leaving the socket in the well. Duct tape to the rescue!
