Anyone know what the hole size is to plug the firewall after removing the sound tube? I don't have a car yet but I have purchased and AIR RAID cai and am going to machine my own plugs.

Thanks in advance

Not 100% sure, I got the blowfish kit from AM because it was 12 bucks and I didn't have to mess around with any fitment issues. The hole is already a pain to reach down to.

When I was removing the nut off the firewall for the tube, I had to find a shorter length wrench in my toolbox for it. My normal length wrench was hitting everything around it and I couldn't get the nut to turn with it. The shorter handle one fit better down in there and was the only reason I could get it off. FYI

is it really worth the hassle to remove the tube if I'm running stock exhaust? I might go with cutouts but don't see any reason to mess with it

It's mostly a decluttering thing I believe. Also reduces the noise from the intake if you add one. Not going to make any big difference either way I don't believe.

I gave up after 30 minutes of trying to squeeze my arm and finger up in there. I could get the damn plug on the hole, but couldn't get enough push behind it to stick in there. Yeah, I know... that's what she said.

Mine was the one that came with the Steeda kit. It finally dropped somewhere in the garage and I just said F it. If water wants to get that far up the fire wall I'm probably already screwed.

The K& N cold air I installed came with a rubber cap that they tell you to cover the first sound device by the strut tower. That still left all the ugly piping. I used a hack saw blade and cut off the plastic pipe just aft of the coil cover and installed the rubber cap from K&N. Out of sight and out of mind and was very easy to do. I did lay cardboard over parts that might come in contact with the hacksaw blade.

Can you just rip the sound tube off the firewall without accessing the nut? Suppose I don't care what it looks like at the firewall and I just want to get rid of the sound tube ASAP?

You can but you will leave a open hole unless you can get your hand in there to install a plug or try to tape the hole closed. If not you risk getting rain coming in on the floorboard.

Yes, it's exactly what I did after like 15 minutes of frustration...just yank the whole goddamn thing out!

The firewall and the retaining nut look just fine, the little hole in the plastic flange of the sound tube is ripped to the side...irreversible mod!:ford:

Yes it's worth it to remove the sound tube to declutter the engine bay. It looks much better. A 10mm swivel head wrench makes the job much easier. Boomba racing makes a kit for sound tube delete. It has a plug for the firewall and the intake. I did remove the plug from the soundtube and put it back on the retention bolt. It made the job look much cleaner.
