Hello Bob, I can't appreciate what you have put together since I won't be doing the installation.
I get it. It’s definitely a slippery slope, that can easily get expensive and out of control real quickly if you’re not careful.

Good luck with whatever you decide, as all that matters is what sounds good to your ears.

I agree, JBL makes some terrific stuff and at a reasonable price point too.
Not ultra high end either, but they get a lot right.

Which is really a shame. My wife’s SUV has a 12 speaker Bose system from factory and it sounds terrific for a stock system. Ford definitely could’ve done better in the sound system department. But a lot of us probably aren’t buying these cars for the sound coming out of the speakers…
If I’m paying for it I expect value for my money. The B&O provides zero value for the money.

I did buy the Bose center speaker cover since 9 speaker cover had optical casting color variations on the grill strakes. Worth $900 alone since have look at it all the time.

I went for simplicity for my vert. I do not have the trunk subwoofer. These speakers came from Crutchfield.

Here's what a friend and myself installed:

There was an improvement in bass...which what I was looking for,

It was truly plug-and-play.

I installed the woofers (lower doors) this afternoon. Was straightforward and simple with the right tools. I compared the audio with 1 new speaker and 1 stock, and the new one seemed louder. Can't say it sounds considerably better, but it's a convertible and that amp/dsp seems to be hot garbage.

Did you have any issues installing the tweeters? The PB tweeters use a pigtail with adapter plug, whereas the stock tweeters have the plug built into the speaker housing. I spent a solid hour trying to reattach the a-pillar trim piece on the first tweeter install, and the negative wire eventually snapped off the soldered terminal. IMO the wires should have been soldered so the pigtail pulls down instead of up. The way it's designed has gravity going against it.

I reinstalled the stock tweeter and eventually got the trim piece back in place. I have no intentions of trying to replace either tweeter again myself. Whoever designed that trim piece trolled every s550 DIYer. What an absolute piece of shit part.

However, before that tweeter broke, I'm not sure it's even an upgrade over stock. Before trying to reinstall the a-pillar trim, I played some music and kept swapping between the tweeters. I held them up to my ear and, if anything, the stock one maybe even sounded better. They definitely sounded different, but the stock one seemed louder.

I haven't run Forscan yet, so everything was still stock.

There are versions with and without the separate tweeter. I bought the cheaper version without the door pillar tweeters.

The bass is stronger-I can now feel it in the armrest and hear it. However, since I believe the bass is cut off or diminished at 100 Hz (probably to protect their speakers), it's better than stock will require a Forscan adjustment or better amp.

Note: if the plug is hard to slip on the new speakers, use a slight bit of silicone and tap it or push on it with a solid object and it fits securely.
