I know this probably isn't a big deal to some on here, but I'm curious to see what kind of sound system the S550 will have.

Will they continue the Shaker system or will it be a Sony based system like other newer Fords.

I personally don't care for the Shaker 1000 system on my 07. I bought it used so it wasn't an issue as far as cost, but if I bought the car new I sure as hell wouldn't have paid over 1K extra for it. Personally I think it sounds like crap with a muddy, boomy bass that's bloated and unrefined. The highs are very tinny.

Has anyone heard any of the new Sony sound units on the new Fords? How do they sound?

Here's hoping we get a decent audio system with some clarity and good sound reproduction.

It's going to be Shaker Unit. The area where the USB/AUX and Power Point are has a Shaker Badge there.

Wow, nice catch. Hope this unit sounds better than the previous ones.

The new Sony systems are actually pretty good for a factory system, needs more low end though. Wish they went a little louder in some models (Explorer, Flex etc) but in a Fusion it is downright LOUD.

I'm hoping you can get the basic Shaker (or equiv. to current Premium model base Shaker) system in a base model with CLOTH SEATS. Don't want to be forced to buy the Premium model to get away from the real crappy base radio that you are currently stuck with in the non-Premium 2014.

<- Hoping for a somewhat easy dash removal and Re-EQ installation to put the good stuff in his 30k mi / year DD :-D

I'm excited to see that mustang is using a 3 way component setup as front stage (my first mustang so if it's been used before idk). That'll give me plenty of options to work with when I inevitably change out the stereo to a higher end setup. My current DD has image dynamics components with a Rockford power 400.4 and fully sealed/deadened doors for mid bass reproduction.

I had the exact same problem with the premium audio system in my Audi A5. This little device (plus a decent sub box and sub amp) made ALL the difference:

That looks like a pretty comprehensive measurement/processing system. I thought the BO system in my S4 sounded very good. So you'd say a lot better after this? Btw What did you use for sub/amp?

Yeah it made a hell of a difference. I used 5 amp channels out of the unit's 8 for driving the stock front, center and rear speakers and added an Alpine PDX1.600 sub amp with a Polk MM1240 DVC in a custom enclosure.

All of the sound systems in mainstream cars are crap to me. Even if it was the Sony system, I'd still replace them. Focal is what I prefer.

Sorry for revitalizing an old thread, but I was thinking more about the Shaker Pro system. I am curious if it will be a setup like the current one, where you lose trunk space due to additional subwoofers? I'm getting a convertible, so trunk space is already limited...it may skew my decision if it does use up trunk space...I'd like to get the 401A package because of BLIS and memory seat....

FYI, the Sony premium sound on my 2011 Fusion (also a 12-speaker) sounds pretty good to me. Could use a little more deep bass but I am a bass-a-holic :p My only complaint is that the door panels rattle a lot, but that is more of a Ford thing not the Sony system. Complained at the dealer but they just tell me the bass is set too high, which I only had it one or two notches above center! I keep wanting to get the doors sealed up with Dynomat or something but it'll soon be the wife's car anyway and she doesn't blast the stereo like I do. I just hope the 2015 Mustang is better put together to handle the sound system.

I wouldn't put my hopes up too high. Any factory stereo, even te most expensive is average at best in my opinion.

I would always advise against paying extra for premium systems unless their headunits offer useful additional functionality. Better sound is not reached by paying Ford $1000 for replacing your 5 dollar amp and speakers with a 10 dollar amp and speakers but by spending $2000 on quality aftermarket components and an integration processor so you can keep the stock headunit.

Unfortunately with this car the premium sound system is packaged with other rather useful options.
