I have a base stereo that I flatlined the EQ using Forscan. I also installed a nice set of Pioneer D-series speakers. The system sounds much better than before.

However, I was thinking of adding a Soundstream Stealth mini-Amp under the dash by splicing into the speaker wires on the back of the stereo, and using a powered input signal.

I'm just wondering how much, if any, increase in sound "quality" I will notice from just adding an amp. Does a class D amp somehow clean up the existing signal to sound better, even at low volume?

Just curious what to expect, since the signal and DSP is still stock from the OEM head unit.

I would say not worth it. Unless... the factory amp doesn't play loud enough with your after market speakers. More power is always better to drive the speakers without clipping distortion but at what cost and hassle? If I were doing an amp upgrade, I would use a good DSP amp like the Audiocontrol D-4.800 or HELIX P SIX DSP MK2. This is where tuning and time alignment + extra watts is going to deliver better sound quality. You could mount your amp in the drivers kick panel but this is a lot of work.

Have a look at this thread for ideas if you are really ambitious:

Have you considered just adding a subwoofer? Makes a huge difference.
