Adding an amp to factory speakers

How long will the factory speakers last with 125 watts going into them?

I made an appointment for my amp install for Monday. I'm getting the Phoenix Gold Ti2 1600.5. It puts out 125Wx4 into 4 ohms.

I'll be using the harness by OEMRadio, as well as removing the factory processing.

For the time being, I'm going to stay with the factory speakers. Any idea on exactly how much power the factory speakers can take before melting down? I figured I'd make a poll to see how long people think they'll last.

The factory speakers cost about $2 and are 2 ohm low power junk... I'd put off doing anything until you can replace the speakers as well. You'd actually be better off doing speakers first and doing the amp at a later date.

Any speaker, cheap or expensive, can fry in no time given enough power (voltage). The stock speakers can last you as long as you desire. The point is to keep from driving them with too much voltage.

If I only had cash to do one or the other I'd go speakers first and then add the amp.

Well, I may be able to swing fronts, but I'm not sure if I'm getting a good deal on them. He quoted me Phoenix Gold Ti 6.5's for $299 installed, or Fosgate's for $199. Both are components.

How does that sound? High or reasonable?

Do.you have the 6 or 9 speaker system?

Also, the factory speakers are 25watts max, so kaboom with 125.

If it were me, I would go with replacing the speakers and the new amp at the same time. As previously mentioned, the factory speakers are rated at 2ohms, so that can present a challenge to some amps, although the one you listed is rated for a 2ohm load.

The PG speakers you listed seem to be a good deal... there are two 6.5 models;
Ti265CS - $360 retail
Elite.65CS - $540 retail

For $299 installed, either would be a good choice, just ask them to try and fit the tweeters behind the factory grill so if you ever want to change them or go back to stock, the a-pillars aren't all hacked up.

If anyone is looking to install an aftermarket amplifier while using your factory stereo, but do not want to cut the factory wiring harness, check out the FOR-11CK plug and play harness (after connecting the speaker wires from the FOR-11CK to your amplifiers speaker wires). This is the cleanest and easiest way to upgrade your stereo system, it's so easy, there is no need to take it to a stereo shop, if you still do it will cost a lot less because it will be plug and play. The Ford 150 owners have been doing this for a long while.

With newer cars that have a more integrated stereo with Bluetooth, it makes sense to add an after market amplifier mated with your factory stereo to add more punch.

Check the FORD-150/FOR-11CK Forums for detailed instructions on installation.

FOR-11CK is available on Amazon and eBay.

WORKS WITH ALL Factory radios, steering wheel controls also work if available.
