Hi Everyone.

Just picked up my new Cali Special and on arriving home had the strong burning smell and smoke coming from the hood. Ok its new and I get that will happen.

On having a look under the car I noticed the whole underneath including the exhaust coated in like a black tar, which I assume is sound deadening.

My question is, is it factory?, Or was it applied by my dealer without my permission?

I can’t imagine why anyone would want something like that and why would a dealer do that ppl enjoy the sounds coming from a Mustang.

Could it be rust proofing ? Did you contact the dealer ?

Hi. Ive tried but its getting a bit late in the day. Im in Australia rust is not really a problem and I have no idea why the dealer would do it, unless it came like that from the factory.

Dealer says because its an export vehicle the underneath is rust proofed for the boat ride over. Makes sense I guess.

Decades ago I purchased a U.S. made vehicle while stationed in Germany. I wish the manufacturer/shipper would have applied such a corrosion proofing material on that car. The car was eaten up with rust prematurely (though living in regions where salt was not used on the roads). In hindsight I would have appreciated the initial smell of corrosion protection material burning off. I hope Ford's/the shipper's efforts to protect your vehicles reap benefits for you.

If you are ‘lucky’ you will have that all the way up to and including the resonator …
