Just curious if anyone is seeing a little soot buildup around the exhaust tips. I am still breaking in the car and have about 530 miles and recently installed the Ford racing performance catch can on the passenger side. I am guessing this is the blow by oil from the crankcase. Anyone else?

You will get soot on the exhaust tips. It's normal. I suppose burned oil can make a black residue, but burned gasoline also does. The car burns a lot more gas than it does oil. I have both catch cans and sooty exhaust tips. :)

I like to disassemble things.
These cars spew quite a bit of condensate not long after being started. And the PCM is toying with numerous strategies to keep the EPA happy. Mix the two together and you have a recipe for what you are referring to as "soot."

I was wondering if I use a different brand of gas to see if that makes a difference.

Short answer is no.

Just use a stainless cleaner or do what I do just spray a little brake cleaner into a soft rag and wipe away. Done.

Just get a little wd 40 on a rag and hit it. Comes off easily. Mine blows crap out of the pipes at start up, sometimes 15' out the back

Seems to come off quite easily. Thanks for letting me know this is normal and not an anomaly.
