My alignment is now 2.75 Camber front and 2.5 rear, I think I may need more due to the outer camber wear I'm seeing.

The video started in lap 3 for that session and by then I knew the tires were done. They were totally greased over and I could just feel the car sliding everywhere.
Interesting findings re: the alignment. Are you saying you experiencing outer wear in the rear as well as the front? 2.5 is certainly on the high end of negative rear camber for the S550 from my understanding.

2.75 front 2.5 rear

I kept them at 34/35 hot the whole day which seems to be their sweet spot
I was following your other thread with your suspension set up and noticed you have both camber plates and camber bolt.

I was wondering if you would be able to get to 2.75 without the bolt?

Thank you, yes it is 100% plug and play. Super easy to use, it's a real bummer.

I need to figure out my GoPro and Harry's LapTimer overlay, hopefully it will work at my next event.
Not a fan of the overlay, and the delay is a killer. Slightly up budget from that rig is the AIM SOLO-DL ($200 more), then about 3x up budget from that is the vBox with CAN bus connection. Both would be far better.

AIM SOLO-DL has very limited CAN bus connection to GT350, and they don't let you program in your own data. For vBox, I've got the entire thing figured out, and they do let you program in your own data to extract anything you want from the bus.

If you had enough budget for vBox + CAN bus connection, I'd be willing to work with you on the vBox connection. I've got all the programming to get all of the GT350 gauge data (and more) from the CAN bus at real-time. Then you film with your gopro, and use existing overlay software to overlay the gauges onto the video for perfect synchronization. If you have the budget for a vBox but want to test drive it, then I'd be willing to loan you mine for a race with all the programming for the GT350 that I've done, and help you with the video overlays with the software I already have. I live an hour north of Laguna Seca in Morgan Hill.

Yeah I've been working on it, one of the laps in the video was bad. After I passed the z28 he tried to dive bomb and I broke way too late.

Nope, I already blew my first motor by chance so before going to Laguna I called FP and they were strongly against the plugs.

Yeah tell me about it, the three eyed toads who live 3 miles away need their sleep I guess!
Was the z28 the car with that huge wing in the rear? That stock?

Mind if I ask about what you mean about "blew your first motor"? Do you mean the actual engine?

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed the video. How does the car handle on turn 7/8 (if that is the right number, I forget sorry) or the downward cork screw? In car seemed to be no issues but was wondering the speed and how it handled. It has been years since I've been there but it is still one of my favorite. Original footprint of Sears Point had something similar and was always fun before they let NASCAR dork it all up.

I'm noticing more outer Camber wear front and rear than anything else.

It could just be Laguna, as Thunderhill and Buttonwillow don't do anything near this kind of wear on the tires.

Honestly I don't think so. This setup is far better for alignments. Basically you get as much camber as you can with the plates and then fine tune it with the bolt.

If you've ever aligned a car with camber plates especially one like ours with this our covered strut housing it's a pain. As you are suppose to unload the suspension before adjusting. The bolts can be done while the car is loaded.

That sounds great. At this point any price is worth the frustration. I have a race end of July and will try the GoPro once more before I ball out.

Do you have any footage of your setup running?

Yes it was, it's actually a fully built race car with a stock motor. Full cage, r comps, the whole exterior is cf, stripped interior etc. I'm still shocked, either the car has some sort of issue or the driver needs some more seat time.

Yes about 2 months ago my motor dropped a valve at Buttonwillow and destroyed the whole thing. So far this one has been good.

It does very well at the corkscrew other than tearing up my splitter! I'll be putting in some steel plates to protect it before my next time there. Speed wise I'm keeping up with everyone in my advanced/race group despite this being my second time there.

Can you explain why the short shift at the corner that comes up @ 2:37?
He's keeping the revs down because that's where they check for sound. If you hit more than around 90db, you can get black flagged for sound. It sucks that such an iconic track has sounds limits that low but that's what happens when there are a whole bunch of old, retired people living nearby.

Due to the nice folks surrounding Laguna Seca there are noise restrictions. There is a sound box to the right at that point, it white. So I short shift and run the exhaust into normal mode to help with the sound.

I also put these on

Here's the video of the setup I did for the BMW E92 M3. I'm not a graphic designer, so the design might suck, but somewhat mimics the M3 dashboard. This was a great video because I created this remote-control gimbal-mounted mechanism for the GoPro. My son was controlling the shot angle of the BMW camera via remote control while riding shotgun in the Porsche. It was way too much to do...but way too expensive and time consuming to ever want to do it again. But the whole thing worked fantastic.

All of the gauges you see are live, none are placeholders.
  • Speedometer
  • Tachometer
  • Steering
  • Gas
  • Brakes
  • Shift lights
  • Gear selection
  • Traction control
  • Oil temperature
  • Water temperature
  • Gas gauge
  • Voltmeter

[ame]

For the GT350, I can do all of these, plus all the e-gauges in your center dash. G-forces aren't shown on here, but can be done as well. A track map with bouncing red dot can also be added (I think -- I haven't actually done that with a GoPro).

If anybody reading this knows any graphics designers who can create a gauge layout for the GT350, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, I'd just reuse the one from the M3.

The most important thing is knowing what gauges you want captured on the CAN bus. The data all gets embedded in the vBox file. From there, any number of graphical designs can be used and the video re-rendered to different gauge layouts. That's why it's most important to capture the data, and then worry about the graphical design later.

How did you like the Cortex DSC, did it work out for you? Did you change it up at all or run it the way it came in the box? I'm looking at buying one in a week or so. Curious to hear your feedback. I wish I would have known about the track day/race, I live 15 minutes from Laguna Seca. Way to represent the GT350's.
