I found it in the cupholder the day I took delivery of the car.
It does a quarter turn to release and open.

That would make sense. The battery cover had been removed. It was in the trunk on my test drive.

Agreed.
I bought a new Mustang 3 days ago and it sat on the lot quite a while needing a new battery.
While detailing the engine bay I noticed none of the three fasteners were on so I asked Dealer to mail me a 4 pack. After researching, they look exactly like what you have.

Car probably had a dead battery before you bought it. They either put it on a charger (likely) or replaced it. The battery cover top in the trunk is the smoking gun. ;).
