My car's at 5800 miles and I'm noticing this issue more often.

When shifting I often feel a Kick from the shifter when going into 3rd as if something's blocking the gate. I sometimes stop when I feel the kick, and a few milliseconds later it opens up again. Sometimes I just jam it in and I can hear a loud metal snapping sound from under the car, it definitely feels wrong.

Wondering if anyone's had this problem and what did you do to fix it. I'm planning to do a transmission fluid swap soon and hopefully it'll make things better. Or is this something I should have dealer service take a look at?

Thanks

id have the dealer look at it, that way its on record that your having a issue. and they cant come back when or if something goes and say it was driver error or hard driving that caused it .. just my opinion

I have this exact same issue with 1300 miles. I took it in like robwlf said and had it documented. They asked me if it was kicking out of gear, I said no that I felt a kick back going into third and had to wait half a second for the gear to allow me to shift into. I never forced the shift. As soon as I felt the kick back or lock out if you will I just paused until it lined up. They said it was normal at this time. Nope but ok,

Mine is doing the same thing going into 3rd gear. Not all the time but often. 5,600 miles.

I've stopped forcing the shifts now. It was a few times during hard acceleration the 3rd gear locks out, but I pushed it in and that's when I hear the loud clank/snap. I'll schedule an appointment this week to have it documented.

In the meanwhile, anyone know if changing trans fluid + getting trans mount will help? I've been planning to do trans fluid swap, but don't know if the mount will be necessary.

Both should help but might not solve the problem.

you will damage shift forks if you try to force it in. Good enough excuse to upgrade to a solid shifter like an MGW

Will the MGW solve this kick back issue? Or is this something more serious like synchros. This is the only downside to the car/ driving experience. Willing to throw the sink at it to resolve. What ever it takes minus a Tremec..ha

i didnt have kickback in mine but yes thats a synchro issue. Take it to the dealer, a MGW or royal purple wont fix existing synchro issues

Upon reconsideration I dont think I'm having the same problem. I think I'm just rushing the shifts when its cold.

I have a similar issue in my car. I can feel a slight kick back when going into third. Double clutching solved the issue. I put the steeda bushing insert in and it doesn't seem do it even when I don't double clutch now. This transmission is much smoother if you double clutch, but it's rather annoying. Especially since the computer holds RPMs for the next gear.

So this is my first manual, if this is common sense then ignore me. But I was having a lot of trouble with third and fourth and feeling like I was hitting something metal such as the side of a gate. I could feel it mostly but slightly hear it also.

I read some advice on how to shift correctly on here and after practicing a couple days my third and fourth issues are literally 100% smooth now.

For third, don't grip the shifter, use the palm of your hand and push straight upwards. Keep in mind there are centering springs, and they will center the shifter and then direct it up to third. So don't angle the second to third shift at all, just smoothly push straight up in a smooth motion with the palm of your hand.

For fourth, use three fingers and gently and smoothly pull straight down. Don't slam it, and be very careful you are goi straight down, no angle at all.

Those techniques completely fixed my shifting issues and have totally transformed my shifting experience, it's so much better now!
