I've posted here about overheating with my 2020 GT and the A10 transmission, happened last year. After Ford dealer replacing the main seal I've only done normal road trip driving, etc. until this weekend. I have a aftermarket trans cooler ready to go for install but I figured I'd head out to the track and give it a go anyway. Welp very first session halfway through it's smoking like crazy again. This time I've got a ride along mechanic friend and we're monitoring on a SnapOn professional system. The trans temp hit 235 in no time during an early morning run and for me at least it's always spitting fluid out the breather on to the exhaust!!

What I'm asking about is shouldn't this transmission handled at least 10 to 15 minutes of track level driving? Ford put a Track mode on the damn car.
Second question or discussion; should I take it back to the dealer and push them to look at the pump failing before just adding the cooling mods? (Note. I had Zero push back from my dealer about having the car on the track.)

I know how much an issue this is from my last post and reading other transmission threads. I'm just feeling a bit stubborn that Ford built a Mustang GT with a transmission that can't handle a few minutes on the track? Curious is this is my third season and during my Novice times I never had an overheat (cause Novice?).

FYI facts: mileage is 13,900 now. Track date was today, it wasn't even 82 degrees at start of session. Fluids are Ford dealer replaced. 10 minutes into session temp was 230 then 235 few minutes later, smoke was light until I hit fast turns then thick indicating the breather was shooting fluid on to exhaust more. fwiw

235° isn't anywhere near the danger zone of hot for these transmissions or the fluid in them. Yes it's higher than normal driving but nothing that would cause the transmission to puke. I agree you have and issue but the high temp is another symptom to go along with it puking.

I saw the title and instantly thought it said Smokey Yunick.

There is something wrong with your trans. No way should it be spitting out fluid at 235 unless it was over filled.

Last year when it happened Ford (actually dealership) replaced the main seal and refilled so if it's over done it was their people.

Is this still under warranty?

I'm only joking but maybe this is why so many A10s are underfilled from the factory

before going to the dealer i would check the fluid level yourself, get it up to 210 and then check it level and with the car running . i dont hear of many people with the issue you have . so my first look would be fluid level , also i have done the pan drop and filter change on my a10 gt and the stuff is like piss thin ,so it does expand quite a bit .

I'm going to echo K4. I bet it was either over-filled or maybe at normal fill it needs a catch tank?

@TeeLew

Normal fill shouldn't puke oil at the temps OP said he was running.

Have you done this yourself? That damn passenger side cat is right in the way, that sucker is hot. I've wondered if this is the reason the right side cat is bolt on. The engineers thought techs would need to remove cat and install test pipe to check trans level.??

catch can/tank is not the answer. Something is very wrong that that much fluid comes out a vent not intended for fluid. We ran codes on it just after I came off track and it showed a torque converter code but it was a minor code.

The key context here is at 235 degrees.

A catch can is important on an A10 car for high speed track use. I am 99.9% sure @Flyhalf runs one and it catches a good amount of fluid.

Found his post over at TMO:

https://trackmustangsonline.com/thr...ns-cooling-questions.14765/page-3#post-271696

The overfilling is an issue for sure. There is a breather on top but that doesn't really fix it.
I have installed a catch can connected to the breather.
It does collect lots of fluid.

I know a lot of folks have catch cans for oil but the location of that vent and the limited and inaccessible space on the transmission? I have doubts.
