Sounds more like it wasn't the right turbo for the motor it was paired with. A lot of folks just throw a turbo on and go, but motor details need to be taken into account when searching for the right turbo to perform properly, that goes for single and twins and the same can be said for blowers as well.Single large turbo is great for Drag strip but not so responsive for street driving. Two smaller turbos are more effective for street RPM range. Single tubo almost feels like a Centeri S/C with long turbo lag.
I drove one on a Camaro once and the boost didn't come in till 5000 RPM. By then it was too late to use the boost.
Not so anymore. Compressor wheels and hybrids have come a long way. A single 76 billet wheel T4 would be nice for a 5.0L. I almost went large single (88 billet T6) on my 6.7L but I could pass up the deal I got on my twins for the Z06.Single large turbo is great for Drag strip but not so responsive for street driving.
