I've got the 2018 Mustang GT with the performance pack and 10 sp auto, and when the car gets over 6500 rpm, the gauges turn red. I've been told it's a "Shift light feature", but TBH in the auto car it's just annoying and distracting when driving fast on a back road in sport mode.

I've looked through the manual, but I can't find any details. Is there any way to turn it off aside from setting the gauges to red?

I know on the 401A dash you can set it at any rpm you want and or turn it off.

Unfortunately mine isn't a GT Premium - it's just a cloth interior. Am I stuck with the annoying shift light?

I'd investigate with the pony button

My ‘17 Premium does this as well, when the lights are on only, not during daytime. I’d love to be able to set the RPM to use as an actual shift light at my desired RPM

Just did some research, apparently my car doesn’t have a pony button - there’s an M button where other cars have the pony feature.

Should be some way to set it. Have you tried scrolling through the track apps screen that’s really the only place I could think of it being. I would think your dash would be like the one on my 17 though where it lights up at redline. So 6500 seems low, I think there had been an issue with some GT’s shipping out with EcoBoost clusters at one point. What’s your redline at on that cluster.

I've gone through the track apps to see if I could find it, but no luck. The redline on the gauge shows about 7500, but the light comes on at 6000-6500. It's crazy - spirited driving on a back road the shift light is almost always on - even with the sport mode downshifts.

You’re probably going to have to end up going to your local dealer. Maybe the programming was off or something from the factory and you got 401a programming

Try setting your gauges to red. They will be red all the time and not change then. It’s a strange fix but it works.

Might have to do that before aggressive driving. Can always chancpge back for the day to day. Wish I could get rid of it all together tho, seems kind of pointless with the 10A.

I’ve always wondered why it doesn’t work during the day.
