Hey guys, quick question. I've been reading one thing and getting information that's different from others.

So I ordered this knob from CJPP and their website says I need an adapter for reverse gear. But some of you here confirmed that you don't need one. Even CJPP shows you don't need one. So which is it?

This is what I bought.

What should I do?

I would call CJPP to make sure. But since it fits the 2011-2016 Mustang, I would get the adapter. The 2011-2014 didn't have the pull up reverse lockout like the s550.

The Knobs that say 2015-2016 only don't require an adapter, they have a larger cutout for the Reverse Lockout.

The knob you purchased is an adaptable knob. and will work with the adapter. In my opinion the knobs that require the adapter dont look as good because of the increase in length with the adapter....

YMMV

Aww fuck! Yeah it's a waste then. I don't want the adapter and have it raised half an inch. I guess I'll call cjpp and cancel my order then.

Thanks for the help guys. Gotta do more research I guess. I canceled the order - CJPP is awesome.

I had the same issue on my '16 GT. It's unclear/confusing on their website, IMHO. They have some shift knobs that come with Loctite, and those are the ones that don't need the adapter. If it's not listed with Loctite (for '15-'16) you need the adapter.

You can actually use all the knobs without the adapter, but if it doesn't have the proper cutout on the bottom of the shifter, there will be an unsightly gap because of the reverse lockout. And yes, the shifter sits a little higher with the adapter, and it's maybe not as pretty, but I still like it.

That rally style q-ball shift knob looks great. Anyone know what my other options are that will allow me to install one without the adapter?

Got this one from CJPony, no adapter required.

Can you take a of of the base or bottom of your knob? Even a side profile will do. I just wanna see if there's a huge gap between the reverse lockout and knob.

i don't know why people even buy from CJPP in this case.

These are all made and sold by Epco. CJPP is just a reseller, and their site sucks ass for this kinda thing. also their limited on colors/combos.

EPCO can do freaking anything. I have a totally custom ordered one coming for my car that should arrive tomorrow. It's Ruby Red like the car, but all the graphics and stripes on the knob will be white. The only options on speeddawg.com or CJPP is the ruby red but with grey or black graphics. eff that. black doesn't contrast very well at all.

if epco's archaic ordering form process isn't your thing, I'd otherwise recommend http://www.speeddawg.com - they're a reseller of Epco's stuff but their site is a lot more fluid and easier to find what you want and order it, as long as it's kinda standard and not a custom order like mine is going to be.

They have drop downs in the form where you can order a standard knob for like the last gen cars (and MGW) with the push down for reverse, or ones that work with the stock pull up for reverse. I had to custom order, as I have an MGW in my '16 and thus don't need the reverse pull up recessed into the knob anymore.

to add, here's what has been in my cars.

Grabber Blue/White knob in my '13 GT, no recess.
Yellow/Black knob in my '14 ST, recessed.
1st Ruby Red/Black knob in my '16 GT, recessed

2nd picture of the ruby red, it's obviously scuffed to shit. I removed it from the car and more or less destroyed it.. long story. lesson learned, don't use red locktite on a shift knob, ever.

I'll post up my Ruby Red/White knob when it arrives tomorrow.

Here you go! The gap is about .030".
