This should be GT350 Anonymous and not Shelby. I'll never refer to my GT350 as a Shelby because he/they had nothing to do with it's development. I would have preferred to save $1,000 and not had the Shelby name on it.

Exactly how I felt when I owned my GT500. The man had little to do with it as well other than gush about it when he drove prototypes and such and serve as a sort of figurehead. Kickass car in its own right, but a Shelby in name only.

I certainly respect your comments regarding not using the Shelby name on these GT350 cars but obviously the Ford family and the executive level at Ford had a great relationship with Carroll and the team that he formed back in 1964 in order to come up with the original GT350 cars. Obviously they still think a great deal of his accomplishments at Ford and have a passion for the Shelby name.

Do you think that back in 1966 that Henry Ford II would have conquered the dominant Ferrari's at Lemans 4 years in a row ('66 to '69) without Carroll and the team that he assembled? These wins at Lemans were the most defining moments within Ford's racing history and the Ford family has never forgotten those great triumphs over Ferrari.

If you ever get a chance to meet Jim Owens, Steve Ling or Dave Pericak at events such as the North American Track Tour or other events that they attend regularly I suggest that you spend some time with them stating your case and listen closely to their responses especially when you suggest that you could have saved a $1000 if the Shelby disappeared from these cars?

Lastly, with Larry Shinoda and Bunkie Knudson having been gone for many years and having no say on the new generation Boss 302 cars that were built in recent years should Ford have discontinued the Boss name and went just with "302"?

I'm trying to be optimistic, but I don't think a R car will be available for me. Between the low numbers being produced and the high ADM, it's going to be tough. I refuse to pay over 5K max on ADM.
But, I am always on here for new news and info. Need my fix. LOL

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I see the Shelby name as synonymous with Ford and the history of the Mustang and I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see a car (or woman) with the name. It makes me happy.

Wasn't there a video where one of the top Ford Performance engineers stated that Carroll Shelby was indeed involved (a few years ago before he passed) in the early conceptualization of this new GT350?

It doesn't take much time to throw out an idea, and being an older person certainly doesn't mean that you can't have great ideas related to a future car development. In my experience brainstorming sessions are best when there aren't too many people involved. It's possible Shelby was in some meetings with just a few of the highest level people on the Ford team. I would love to know who had the guts to decide that Ford should develop a FPC engine. It's crazy! Something I could see an old racer coming up with.

So what did he contribute? I've talked to the engineers that worked on this car and none mentioned Carroll Shelby. None. It's marketing. You can buy into it if you want to but I'm not. Just a personal preference.

Just wait 2 years or so. You'll be able to find lightly used, pristine examples and save quite a bit of money on them. I haven't even finished the transaction and I'm already kicking myself for not being patient enough to make the smarter decision and do this.

This might surprise you that I'm older than you, grew up on SoCal, was very aware of what Shelby did, even saw his cars race at Riverside raceway as a kid. I have great respect for what Shelby did during his early career but that doesn't change the fact he wasn't involved in the development of the GT350 and hasn't done anything worth mentioning in the racing world in decades.

Notice that you don't own a Shinoda 302. ;) BTW I've talked to Owens and Ling several times about the 350 and FGT and the only time Shelby was mentioned was when Owens was doing his marketing spiel at Track Tour. On separate occasions when talking to them and other Ford engineers nobody mentioned Shelby's involvement in the car...because he wasn't. This is marketing 101. Nothing wrong with that but to me this is a bad ass Mustang created by Ford engineers, most who weren't even born in 1965, not a bad ass Shelby.

In 2 years or so, the new GT500 may be out and I'll probably end up with that. I wanted to have the 2016 GT350R for 2 years and trade that in towards the new GT500. (If it does come out. )
And, I don't buy cars like these used. I'd rather buy new and have the 3yr/36,000 warranty that comes with the car when brand new. Plus, I want to be the one to "break it in". lol

I guess it's safe to say we have differing opinions. I'm choosing to believe Jim Owens and the other people at Ford Performance I talked with personally on this topic who had lots of stories about how Carroll Shelby was involved in the early development of the GT 350. (See Message 15 in this thread.) :shrug:

In 2 years or so, the new GT500 may be out and I'll probably end up with that. I wanted to have the 2016 GT350R for 2 years and trade that in towards the new GT500. (If it does come out. )

You can bet on the GT500 coming out in the near furture and I suggest that there will be a 50th Anniversary 2017 GT500 followed up in 2018 with a 50th Anniversary GT500KR.

Also, keep on the look out for a Mach 1 sometime in the 2018 MY.

If you are willing to wait for a GT500 your patience will certainly be rewarded and maybe sooner than you think!
