Hello everyone,

Today I stumbled on a '17 R that I put a deposit on. There are many folks here who have ordered R's in the past that know the process like the back of their hand. (For the record, this is not one of those "I finally found my R threads").

My situation:
I dropped a 5K deposit on an R that has already been ordered.

My concern:
All I have is a receipt for a 5K deposit and I have no order number.

My recollection:
I seem to recall reading that each order has a specific number that can be traced trough a CONUS or something to track the order through its manufacture to delivery process.

Can anyone share with me how the process works? What kind of documentation should I have received with such a transaction?

I'm debating whether to keep the '16 track pack I have and track it or sell it. Any input is welcomed.

If you special ordered your GT350, then I'm pretty sure the process is the same with the R.

If you didn't special order your GT350, then the process from what I have read is that you should get an order number and a DORA.

However, I never got either of those when I special ordered and I still got my car.

You may not get a DORA (I didn't) but there should be a VOC, Vehicle Order Confirmation which will have an order number, dealer code, and last name of purchaser. AFAIK, in my state (Oklahoma) deposits are 100% refundable if the vehicle is not delivered or accepted. As far as tracking through COTUS this seems to be very hit and miss. In my experience a vehicle which is still "Unscheduled-Material Hold" will not show up in COTUS. I've had very good results by just calling FP and getting an update from Mike or Isaac.

Hope this helps,as always, ymmv :D

P.S. Believe me you can change the order..I doubt the car has a VIN # yet , which means you can order what ever color you want..

Once it has a VIN, it's sent to the factory and locked in as far as I know.

Tomster, you can still possibly change that order. Do it ASAP! Having a VIN does not mean its final, but its approaching that time.

I wouldn't change a thing. The car is OW Blue OTT stripe with the electronics package and car cover.

Hand me a blank order sheet, and that is exactly what I would have ordered.

There is no VIN yet either. I was told that the car was ordered the day orders were being taken.

How would the dealer know when the VIN is generated?

One more question. Speaking from collectability, which is a better color combo for an R? As the order stands, It is Oxford White with blue OTT Stripes. I am seriously considering Avalanche Grey with Black stripes (front and rear) but with a black roof. Is it about a wash or would one color have more collectability or resale value (which probably isn't going to happen)

Thanks

Honestly you should try to divorce what you will think will be "collectible" from what you will enjoy. An R will always be desirable regardless of it's color should you ever want to sell it.

I honestly do like both of them. Maybe a tad more towards the grey with black roof and black stripes

You can't go wrong either way. Both are great combos.

If I hadn't been in love for so long with the classic Shelby color scheme AG/Black OTT would have been my choice.
