SCT X4 updates

just got an email in from bama with their v2 tune, however i tried loading a file onto the tuner. the x4 turns on however no drivers install or anything. the sct software doesnt detect it.

a. either i am a dipshit or
b. i need to use the micro-usb cable provided to me. either way i guess it will have to wait til i get home.

Windows 7 machine? SCT X4 did not work on Windows 8 for me. Had to switch to a windows 7 machine.

What if the tune was written and loaded without updating the handheld. I know mime needed updated last tune he sent (which supposedly would be latest available stuff). Should I go to stock, update and reload l?

I had 171 files that needed updating with mine. I updated before even trying to load the tune.

Most of the updates to the SCT X4 are for the tune files SCT provides, the actual unit firmware hasn't changed for quite awhile.

The SCT X4 contains tune files created by SCT for 100's of Ford products.

My question is this, though.

If my tuner wrote a tune and used a parameter that sct added and I haven't updated my handheld, will that not be correct when I load that tune into my handheld and into my car? Then, when I updated my handheld and reloaded the tune into the car, that parameter start working right? I understand how this works basically just not sure about things like this. My tuning experience pretty much stops at emulators for the 86-04 systems.

If your tuner wrote your custom tune with the latest SCT software they will tell you to update your handheld X4 device before uploading the tune.

Would the device even care? Does it have any knowledge of or even care about the contents of the tune? Is it not just transferring/installing the tune file?

I got my SCT with Lund tune just over a month ago, is there generally enough updates in a month's time to bother requesting an updated tune? Going on a roadtrip in less then a week so wouldn't mind having the latest...

Not that I tried it personally but there have been people who mentioned not being able to load a tune onto the X3/4 until they updated the software.

It's worth asking. Lund has a system for requesting updates.

Contacted Lund about the update, had the updated tune within an hour. Talk about some fast service!
