Sorry guys if this is a noob question. I'm switching over from Cobb to the x4. My tuner sent me a datalog config file and I was trying to upload it to the device to datalog, but when I go to the device and click "Filename.dlx" while it's plugged in to the car, it scans the file and says the software is out of date. I talked with support and they confirmed that my software is up to date and kind of left me hanging. Has any one had this problem before? I can't really use my laptop to datalog since I only have a Mac for a laptop. The only thing I could think of is that possibly the file had to many parameters trying to be recorded with the device alone, 39 to be exact. If anyone has any suggestions to help it would be very appreaciated!

Well - hold on. I've been in the same position MANY times before. And by that I mean that I have been faced with something new & unfamiliar...which does not seem to be working as I think it should. And it's natural to conclude that it's someone else's fault; that someone has provided me with inferior data or equipment. But Jonah is not saying it's someone else's fault; he's asking for guidance, which is the mark of a smart person.

Once the initial learning curve is past, Jonah may very well be saying:

"Wow! This system is really great! I love how easy it is to..."

Okay - that's not guaranteed, but in the beginning -- when it may seem faulty or inferior to the previous system -- it may be that it's simply unfamiliar.

I have some experience data-logging with the SCT and a PC laptop, but unfortunately I cannot offer guidance with this particular scenario. But Jonah - I'm sure someone will jump in here with some assistance for you. We are part of a large community of clever and experienced people!

You up load the data log config file to the device with the software SCT provides for viewing the datalog. You do this without the device plugged into the car.

When you plug the device into the car and go to the list of data log config files the new one will be on the list.

After dataloging take the device back to your PC and use the SCT software to view the log on the device or down loaded to the PC. It will be a CSV file that can be opened with Excel.

That's exactly what I did, and did the process correct, but when I go to the list of datalog config files, that's where the error occurs

Do you have the SCT Device updater app from DeriveSystems?

Have you verified that the device is indeed up to date using that app?

Are you using LiveLink software? Note that - unlike every other program on earth - that one does not update its core code when you select the Check for Updates toolbar button. Unless you have already verified this, you need to compare the version that you have to the version that is currently available on the website for downloading.

This is probably not very helpful, but I can only talk about what I know.

Please post your progress/success, Jonah.

Yes to all. I managed to get my hands on a laptop to mess with using that to datalog instead of only the device. It worked! I guess the file the tuner sent had too many parameters. I believe if you want to datalog with the device alone, you have to have under 20 or so parameters. I guess if anyone has the same problem I did in the future they will either have to record less parameters or use a laptop as their only options.
