For me, the Simpson Voyager fits well - and features a relatively large eyeport, which can be a good thing if you don't wear a helmet all that often. I know that series had some problems with the 2015's early on, but I think they got everything sorted out.

I'll be due for replacing my 2010 SA later this year, and even at 72 I think I'm still going to be better off waiting for the 2020's.

See if there is a local speed shop that sells helmet, often times they will have enough in stock you can go and try different brands and sizes on to find the one that’s right for you.

What is your budget? and how lightweight do you want? That will drastically alter options...

I went with an entry level cost helmet and am happy with it for my HPDE use... has provisions for HANS and feels great. $170ish and in the 4lb range.

Budget is not an issue. Especially after spending 5K on steering and suspension upgrades.

Yes, open face is allowed.
Not sure whose question it is, but I'd still get a full-face helmet, given that an open-face will limit you to only running with groups that permit open-face helmets. Not all groups do, and there's no guarantee that a group that allows open face helmets today will allow them next year (particularly right now, with an older SA-spec about to be "retired").

This is more about running on road courses rather than autocross or possibly rallycross.

Makes you wonder why we are required to run with the windows down "for safety".
I think it's mostly because they're often glass and a _real_ problem to clean up after an incident. Pro race cars run with Lexan/plexi closed cockpits.

Only the FIA Homoligated cars, like GTE & GTE. All the US based cars run windows down or no side windows.

Problem is, street cars are not designed to run at high speed with the windows down. The buffeting can get quite bad. Probably a good idea to use a closed face helmet for this reason, save open face helmets for autocross.

Sportscar racing is pretty much all FIA at this point, so windows. I understand what you mean on the amateur end, though. I think it's an effort to reduce broken glass on the racetrack & to dirty the car up aerodynamically (slows them down).

To you point, though, closed face helmets should be the standard.

If the car was involved in an on or off track incident, and the door was compromised that it couldn’t be opened, the rescue personnel would not be able to get to the driver fast enough if the windows were up.

That's a similar argument which was originally used against belts. I'm not buying it.

This is the reply I got from an experienced corner worker. Once heard that they wanted to be able to talk/yell to the driver as another reason.

The first one is obviously violated by the FIA practice, plus could be overcome with a $2 tool.

Many rules specifically outlaw replacing glass. Why do that if it is a significant safety improvement? So I don't believe your new, protect us from potentially broken glass reason.

The second doesn't work for race cars. Once started it usually doesn't even work for a relatively low speed autocross, with quieter cars.

I have a 2011 G-Force open face helmet and racing gloves left over from my HPDE days that I do not need anymore.

Can be yours for dirt cheap if interested.

PM me if you want them,

I'm in Columbia and usually go to Carolina Motorsports Park, but need my own helmet. Price? I'm probably close by and can pick up.

Thanks!

I'll DM you my info. Glad someone will be able to use it. CMP is where I went to events in the past also.
