Companies can try all they want but there is always a vulnerability waiting to be exploited. Just for the record, I'm one of the good guys (trained in the way of, uh...). If you think hacking cars is scary, dont look any deeper.This is one example of the reason why large manufacturers don't want users to be able to modify the core code of the last controllers. Large manufacturers (auto, agriculture, construction, etc.) fear the repercussion of a tweaked/hacked/cracked/modified code that causes an accident.
There is a common misconception that these companies want to put an end to mods like tuners do. That is NOT true. They do, and rightfully so IN MY OPINION, want to prevent the consumer from tweaking things the adaptive cruise control code. One typo in that code will cost someone's life.
