Scarring on metal inside engine

This is a view of the internals through the oil filler hole. I don't know what that rod is (camshaft?).

But I did notice it had some metal scarring on it.

Is this normal? I did an oil change at 700 miles when engine was new. Hopefully that saved me.

Those look like grinding marks in the casting. If that was caused by making metal on metal contact, you would have noticed it.

That’s not metal scarring. Just rough casting on the cam shaft. The lobes, which I don’t believe are in view should be shiny and smooth.
